The more money I have the less I like it here

Hmmm..... Thailand has never represented value for money. Only people thinking with the little head believe this to be true.

I find my value for the money here quite rewarding. One cannot put a price on retiring early and being debt free. Sure there are a few trade-offs but they are noise in what I have in return. If I was in the states I would have to work another 10+ years. I find the states offers very little value for the money.

The OP sounds pissed off about something. Best to just let it go and move to a place where he finds it more suitable. No one is telling him he has to stay. Maybe the ranting on and on helps him feel better. Carry on.

Very sorry to say that this person is deluded and should return to his home land as soon as possible.  I have been here 15 years and love it., but not in "smogland called Bangkok".  You need to wake up Dude and start travelling around.  There are many lovely places in Thailand and not only I, but many of our European Friends love the Thai food.  The locals here are very friendly and are far less likely to shoot you than in the USA.  Accommodation is far less expensive and if you want fresh air, go to some of the smaller Islands, of which there are plenty.  Get you butt out from behind your computer and TRAVEL.  Failing that pack up and go home as you clearly have a problem,

Western food tastes terrible and I don't know what they put inside as I get sick eating it most of the time

Good grief. If you don't like the western food, eat something else. Is that too hard?

If I get sick eating something I don't keep eating it.

Not just the OP, but so many come on TVF complaining that western food is not good here, western style living is too expensive and everything is just so peachy back in the west compared to LOS. The mind boggles.

Not to brag but Thailand's poor medical system provided me with a faultless double heart by-pass, removal of a basal cell carcinoma, 9 weeks in the King's Hospital where my prostate cancer was cured, outstanding follow-on care for heart monitoring, specialist doctors of the highest caliber. Don't cry to

everyone about "bad" Thailand. Please don't plead the "go-fund-me" every time you failed to provide for yourself, your wife and your children. Twenty years of service earned me my Tricare insurance plus post-service jobs the necessary nest egg. Don't come to Thailand direct from your local pub and think Thailand will care for you. Fact is Thailand does provide free care even for poor expats.

Hard work and American consumption. I I'll leave it at that.

BTW, not unusual that so many missed the point. Yes, I know you can get a condo for 50,000 US$ in Chernobyl Mai. Sure you can get one in Bangkok too, which will be crawling with cockroaches and rats in 10 years... that is it the building still stands. We are talking about value for money here, and the value for money is sub par in Thailand. I agree that value for money if you want to live like a cheapo Charlie is actually very decent.

What i dont understand is the people complaining , if you not happy somewhere just leave . You'r free to go . Maybe if you not happy when you have 500.000 ,you should give 400.000 away to some homeless children, or build a big house for them to stay with payed staff to take care of them . Maybe that will make you more happy . If not ,just stop crying and leave . Same story with the fugetives in my country, free healthcare free housing free money and they still complain, go back to where you came from if you not happy

married and not retired? sounds painful.

i rent a 3br 2 b house 100m from the beach for 10,000 baht? USA where?

no "visa" issues for me. retired, single and 800k in the bank in Thailand.

just got back from the hospital, flying on pain killers now, you could not park your car in the USA for what they charged.

My girlfriend is running around taking care of me 24/7 while I have a slight medical issue.

Can you please tell me where you reside in Thailand? I would love to live by the beach in a home that is only 10K for rent. Like you I am retired and also use the 800K option but live not far from the immigration dept; on Chaengwattana in Pakkret North of Bangkok. Thank you for whatever information you might provide.

Hua Hin. I live in Thai neighborhood, not a farang compound. the house is older than 20 years.  I needed a Thai friend to ride around with me to read the "for rent" signs and make calls. My Thai landlords loves me because I will fix little minor things without calling them.

after renting for 2 x three months at 11,000k per month i said i will pay 10,000 per month and give you the whole year in advance. 120k. they loved that idea. i had to rent for a while before i could trust them and make sure it was going to be quiet.

if you look on line for rentals listed in English then you are already paying too much.

Most my friends have Thai girlfriends 30 plus years younger than them. They are all in there mid 70’s and I am the youngest in my group at 49. Most came because not of clean beaches and cheap food. They came like myself due to the fact there was a massive supply of easy women and ten years ago when I first came, Thailand was buying me a whole lot more for my dollar. Things have slowly changed.

For me, ten years on, nowhere is going to beat the beauty of my Australian beaches and with the fall of the Aussie dollar, Thailand if you are not bar hopping is not that cheap anymore. Cheaper in fact to go now to the Philippines.

If you have a load of dollars and can spend the coin just not on bars and women there are many other choices out there. I am sure most my friends if they where multimillionaires would only come to do short times in Thailand.

I spent the last four years straight in Thailand till I left last week to take my wife home to visit my parents. It has opened my eyes to how much due to currency fluctuations the value has fallen off Thailand. My shopping is near the same price for basic foods now and the quality of our meats is far better. Sure it is more expensive than Thailand but the difference is in clean air (I just came from Mad Max Land Chiang Mai), clean ocean waters (our house in Australia is near a beach) and normal road conditions makes a big difference. If you have the money and can afford to live between two Countries during the prime times of year, I am sure later in life when my insurance premiums will go through the roof, I may change my current views on Thailand and where I really want to retire. I love Thailand but I understand now if you do have money, you have a lot more choice.

I agree with your post. But why join the deluded people who think we are guests here?

If you had a guest in your house, would you not care and never will?

To what major city do you refer? Certainly not mine. London.

Private healthcare is also cheap compared to my city.

Don't choose Bangkok if you feel it's too dirty.

Learn to cook for yourself if you are not happy with what is produced for you. I do just this with high quality ingredients I import for myself. The quality of the food in the USA is often not much better. Lax standards there too.

Can't argue about the visa issue as it doesn't yet apply to me.

Safety net? I have friends that went for and have Permanent Residency. No need to apply for extensions after that.

There is always a solution and since you claim to be not short of funds, it should be relatively easy.

"Permanent Residency"??  and just how many westerners qualify for permanent residency here?

My house payment is less than my lawn/maintenance payment at my home in Florida.  Seems like a value to me.  Lawn vs New 3 bedroom home.  Utility payments, water bill and transportation are also a great value.  A taxi and driver costs me $21 per day.  Western educated cardiologist $15 per appointment.

My spouse is not ungrateful. Because she doesn't want to go to immigration with me? She has a very important job at the international company and even 1 missed day could cause a lot of issues for her and others.

I feel like I'm kinda stuck in Thailand because there would be no same opportunity for her back home.

Don't want to be a W wagger but mine has a $30 million USD budget (Samsung) and a staff of 50 including engineers from Japan, Korea, America and is available when I need her.  You're being taken for a ride.

If she can't miss a day of work like the PM, Trump or any leader of any country in the free world she may be telling you porkies.  Best re think the situation.

Your status is a reflection of your effort.  Bill started with a 6 grand loan and is respected by almost all Thais.

These posts, both the initial entry and responses, could be automated to be discussed by bots they are so repetitive.

Same for the one where a guy mentions that he thinks his girlfriend of 2 months might actually be dating other guys as well, or that she might actually be a bar-girl (as implied by being covered in tattoos), even though she assured him that she works in an office, and just happens to be busy in the evenings.  The same comments always turn up in those too, one after another (eg. her cousin isn't really her cousin).

Same for discussing whether or not a suicide might not really be a suicide, or how Pattaya / Phuket / wherever else just isn't like it used to be.  You guys really should mix it up a bit.
