Geordieabroad
I have Australian friends here in Thailand, they are a married couple and have been retired here for 4 years Recently when speaking to the man, he mentioned having to keep 1.6 million in the bank for extension renewals. Is it not possible that he applies for the extension and she accompanies as a dependent on the same extension therefore freeing up 800,000? I mentioned this to him, although he hasn't asked that question at immigration he seems to think that they couldn't because they're Australian, that doesn't make sense to me. Anyone have the answer? Thanks in advance

ubonjoe
Only one of them has to apply for the extension of stay based upon retirement and show 800k baht in the bank. The spouse of the one with the extension can apply for an extension based upon the others with no financial proof. Any nationality can apply for the extension. Info is here (retirement is clause 2.22). https://www.immigration.go.th/content/service_20
Thailand
Yes, they can do it with 800K in the bank with either husband or wife as dependent but the account has to be in the name of the main applicant only.
onera1961
I think most people don't know it. They assume for two persons they need 1.6 mil. I also did not know it. Not that I would need it. I learned in this forum only. I don't know if this information is published widely.
