PHUKET: Phuket City Mayor Somjai Suwansupana warned of water sources on the island running dry and announced the second plan for emergency drought preparations yesterday (Mar 25) at a meeting held at the Phuket City Municipality Office.

The mayor highlighted the importance of water preservation during the annual dry months on the island.

“The months of January to April are known to be dry months in Phuket,” she said. “There are more than 18,096 houses that Phuket City Municipality is responsible for and we use raw water from both private and government reservoirs to provide the tap water to all.”

I'm fairly sure the local mayor hasn't any power to fix the chronic water storage problems, that's something only the MWA and national government can resolve. (And that would involve the scarce commodities of forward planning and infrastructure funding).

Instead she has merely called the ubiquitous media event, complete with full uniforms and table settings, to announce there are dry months and people should store water and generally use less of it.

I look forward to one day reading about an "Action Plan" that actually involves long term resolutions.

As an owner of rental properties, this is becoming a nightmare.  Our usual water truck delivery company just sold off his 2 big 12,000 L truck, I guess to a hotel group who need water also.  Called about to water delivery guys but they not interested as they fully booked up right now, No time, No spare water. Having a small truck delivery every day at much greater cost - oh well. Just another day in sunny paradise, ????

The water delivery service down our road normally runs 2-3 trucks daytime hours. The last few weeks it's been running 5 trucks 24/7. Not sure how deep the little lake they pump from is, but it's mighty low.
