This rotten product has ruined natural rain forests globally....and now in keeping with Thai governments fondness of their business mates, subsidies given to these rats!

And Europe already said that they will stop importing palmoil to be used in biodiesel....

Slash and burn for creation of palm tree plantations is a problem in Indonesia, but not Thailand where tree felling is closely monitored.

You really have no clue what you're talking about, just repeating what has been burnt in your brain by some activists.

Seems everything they grow here has to be subsidised,

rice,tapioca,rubber,shrimp,and palm oil,so taxpayers

provide the subsidies, and in turn have to pay more

for the produce because the price is higher ????

The continuous problem: the supply of palm oil exceeds domestic demand by 190,000 tons that pressures lower market prices.

Previous actions:

  • The Public Warehouse Organization (PWO) is set to propose the purchase of 100,000 tons of palm oil to help farmers during the upcoming high supply of palm oil in the marketplace.
  • up to 160,000 tons of palm oil will be used in the production of electricity at Ratchaburi and Bangpakong Power Plants.
  • to raise the amount of palm oil used in the production of biodiesel by 0.3% to 6.9% that would increase the demand for palm oil by as many as 80,000 tons per year.
  • Energy Policy and Planning Office to raise the amount of palm oil used in the production of biodiesel  by 0.3% to 6.9% that would increase the demand for palm oil by as many as 80,000 tons per year.
  • State-owned EGAT to purchase 160,000 tons of crude palm oil for electricity generation from January to July 2019, ie., at the Bang Pakong Thermal Power Plant in Chachoengsao.

Why government palm oil policies and subsidies haven't worked:

  • September 12, 2015 - Chutima Bunyapraphasara, Permanent Secretary for Commerce said palm growing is still profitable.
  • October 11, 2015 - Farmers in several sub-districts of Yala's Muang district are turning to oil palm trees in instead of para rubber trees in a bid to diversify their sources of income.
  • May 19, 2016 - Surat Thani Provincial Agriculture Official Somnuek Hemmanee said oil palm farmers are encouraged to harvest ripe produces for sale in order to maximize their revenue.

The government just doesn't get that the production of palm oil needs to be significantly reduced permanently. Or perhaps it's just time to discourage all production by refusing any further government attempts to bolster domestic prices through artificial consumption and subsidies.
