LOL Mike Pence isnt "notoriously" anti-gay. Why do you say that?

Because he is.
Supported conversion therapy.
Supported discrimination by businesses.

Opposed marriage equality … would like to overturn it.
Extremist right wing Christian fundamentalist.

Regularly is a featured speaker at virulently anti-gay far right wing political lobbying groups.
His wife works in a school that kicks out gay kids.
Even 45 talked about how Pence wants to hang gays. Yes he was joking but big grain of truth.

So, because hes a Christian, and his wife works at a christian/religious school, hes an extremist bigot? Thats a hell of a low bar you've set for extremist bigotry.

And Pence never, not once, supported "conversion therapy".

Why do you equal 'anti-gay' with 'extremist bigotry'?

Mixed truth here, " Mike Pence once supported the use of federal funding to treat people "seeking to change their sexual behavior." " but also " Pence never stated that he supported the use of electric shocks or "gay conversion" therapy. ".

I had a list. You cherry pick. I would say, yes, a U.S. official at his level is supposed to represent all the people. He supports what his wife is doing. So it's not just his wife's actions. The policies of that school are DISGUSTING and should be condemned by all actually moral people. How can you kick out a child for who they are? Would it be OK for a VP that didn't admit people because they are black?

He did support conversion therapy.

Quote

Congress should support the reauthorization of the Ryan White Care Act only after completion of an audit to ensure that federal dollars were no longer being given to organizations that celebrate and encourage the types of behaviors that facilitate the spreading of the HIV virus. Resources should be directed toward those institutions which provide assistance to those seeking to change their sexual behavior.

Mike Pence, 2000

The groups that he supports and they support him, PROMOTERS of the abuse including CHILD ABUSE that is gay conversion therapy --

You can nitpick about different points, but to try to act like Pence is not an anti-gay EXTREMIST is simply not true. Everyone knows that he is. I don't believe that you actually believe that he's not. It's just a gaslighting game to act like he isn't.

This is a sick game of the far right. Act like they are victims of discrimination because of people pushing back against their extremist anti-civil rights agendas. Most people see right through that.

Yes there is no doubt that Mike Pence is the most explicitly anti-gay civil rights VP or president in American history. Of course the issue wasn't even spoken about for most of American history, but since it has been, he takes the cake.

Its a religious private school implementing their own rules according to their religion. Seems to be you have a hard time with Christianity more than than Pence.

I dont even need to nitpick anything, he isnt an anti-gay extremist. Because someone is religious and doesn't agree with your choice of lifestyle doesn't equal that they hate you and want to deny your right to exist. You want someone to represent "all the people" according to you, but apparently you aren't willing to do the same in reverse to Christian people.

He actively works to deny gay people civil rights. Indeed he is an anti-gay extremist. Perhaps you're saying because he doesn't literally throw gay people off buildings that he's not an extremist. I don't buy that. Sure freedom of religion is good but what kind of good religion treats children that way? That's not all in the spirit of Christianity. That is EXTREMIST far right wing fundamentalist Christians. More about political ideology than theology. Sure they have freedom to be hateful like that if they're not taking government funds (they probably are though, right?) but again as VP he's supposed to represent all Americans. If his wife was in the KKK would that be alright? To me, working for a school that kicks out gay kids is the kind of the thing the KKK would do. NOT acceptable.

A more accurate way of saying that is that he doesn't support gay marriage, and that its because of his religion. Not that hes "anti-gay". Thats hyperbolic dont you think?

And if you think that religion has no place in politics, which I would kind of agree with, then the current muslim anti-semitism in the dem party would need to be addressed, wouldnt it?

He actively works to crush LGBT civil rights and he has done so throughout his career. That is his BRAND. To try to playact as if that isn't his brand is pure gaslighting.

There are gay parades where gay people walk around wearing dildo suits and dry humping each other and being obnoxious, and its supported as a right to do so. Im pretty sure there are alot of people dont agree with that lifestyle but you can still be whoever you want to be without fear of the government "throwing you off of a building" as you say.

And no it wouldn't be alright if his wife or anyone was in the KKK. Christianity is not the KKK and the analogy is absurd.

LGBT people want and deserve full equality under the law. Not being thrown off buildings is not good enough.

In what way are you not getting full equality? This is something that I genuinely do not understand but see all the time coming from the gay community.

Wow. You are very misinformed.

A person can be fired from their job, denied employment, denied housing in the majority of U.S. states simply for having a LGBT identity.

Americans are legally protected against that based on gender, race, and religion but not LGBT identity.

That's basic and LGBT people don't even have that.

The democratic party supports a federal law to override all the state laws that allow that kind of unfair discrimination. The republican party led by 45-Pence do not.

OK, a question. Do you think that the Christian cake baker should have been forced by law to bake the cake? Or a muslim be forced by law to handle bacon? Or jews?

Do you believe that your lifestyle is greater than someone else's religious freedom? Because thats ultimately the issue here.

Lifestyle? Stuck in the 1970's are you?

I'm not speaking for all gay people on cake baking issues.

I won't get baited by you into discussing cakes. I think that's a trivial deflection. Your assertion that it's all about stuff like that is total B.S.

An example, a case of a doctor refusing to treat a child of lesbians because of so called religion. The 45-Pence regime supports that kind of "freedom" for doctors. I think that's disgusting.

To add, please don't refer to LGBT people as a lifestyle. It's not only dated, it's insulting.

I'm a millennial, and I'm not baiting you. I'm asking your opinion and specifically asked for you're feedback in an honest way.

Do you feel that your lifestyle is of greater importance than another person's religious freedom? Because it sure presents to me that way.

Not a lifestyle.

As it's clear now you refuse to address me with respect, I will decline further engagement with you on this topic.

Really it's hard to take someone seriously that actually didn't know that LGBT people lack basic civil rights in the USA and that those civil rights that do exist are under constant attack to be further degraded by the likes of Mike Pence and most of his party.

Back to Mayor Pete.

I think it's fair to assume that Mayor Pete and any of the democratic presidential hopefuls are going to have a very pro LGBT civil rights policy agenda.

If people ending up supporting and nominating Mayor Pete, there wouldn't be much reason to do that based on LGBT issues only.
They'll all be good.

Of course it will be inspiring especially to LGBT youth to actually see a gay person as president just as it was inspiring for African American children to see Obama.

But it's not necessarily. Jews have gone without ever having a Jewish president and in some ways that might be a blessing.

68 percent of Americans are OK (or better) with a gay president.

That represents progress but arguably not enough.

On the other hand the newly elected mayor of Chicago, a lesbian, just won in EVERY borough of that great city.

Most Americans are a-OK with a gay presidential candidate. That's a big shift in less than 15 years.

Continuing to post remarks that justify people who support anti-LGBT is going to earn suspensions.   This is the gay forum.   The remarks are off-topic.

Mayor Pete is also a religious person and as he said, he reads the scriptures differently than Mike Pence.

Now stay on topic.

Perhaps he's a Trump sort of Christian - a serial adulterer, pussy grabber, casino mogul, and all-round bigot? (Well, apart from the pussy grabbing.  Guess that's not his thing.)  If so, we can know that God has chosen him for greatness.

I don't consider "trump" to be any kind of Christian (though he draws much of his support from the right wing "Evangelical" types because he promises them things like being anti-LGBT civil rights and making abortion illegal) but the U.S. isn't a theocracy so in theory it shouldn't matter about the religion of a politician. In reality the U.S. is likely to have a gay president much earlier than an openly atheist president. It is notable that Mayor Pete is gay and Christian. If he was gay and openly atheist, forget about it.

Representation matters.

People really do like this guy.

So is it boot-edge-edge or Buddha-judge?

He's Mayor Pete. A smaller city Midwestern mayor like you might run into at the Hardware store and say Hi Mayor Pete. Gay or whatever, he's definitely someone new, interesting, and different.

Even Fox News pundits are saying they expect him to be a contender.

The contrast to what we have now is breathtaking.

I am seeing now that Mayor Pete is not shying away from advocating for LGBT civil rights, including favoring a federal civil rights bill if elected and continuing his well justified attacks on hypocritical homophobe VP Mike Pence. That's all well and good, I suppose, but I watched him speaking about this, and the truth is his speaking style put me to sleep. Yes he has great intelligence and a compelling resume for such a young man, but I think he may too deficient in the charisma department. You need to fire up the crowds. Like 45 can of course for his base. Like Kamala Harris can and other democrats can as well. That matters too and now I'm thinking that his chances which were already a very long shot, are even longer.
