The decomposed body of an unknown man was found floating 500 metres off the coast of Trat province on Sunday morning.

Following the 9.30am report of the discovery of a dead body off Muang district, Pol Captian Katsila Wongchai of Ao Chor Police Station led rescue workers to investigate at the Ban Laem Thian beach in Tambon Ao Yai.

The shirtless man, suspected to have been dead for at least three days, reportedly showed no wounds but had a rope (with the other end tied to a rock) tied around his waist and a fishing line stuck on one of his short pant's belt loops. He had a flower tattoo on his right shoulder but his face was decomposed beyond recognition.

Trat medical examiner Dr Kwanchanok Laohacharoen said the cause of the death could not be known pending autopsy at the Forensic Science Institute at Bangkok’s Police General Hospital.

Police suspected the man, who was not from the area, was killed over a personal dispute and his body was then disposed into sea tied with a rock to keep it submerged but it had floated to the surface.
