Drainage work begins on Jomtien Soi 5

PATTAYA:--Pattaya has built a drainage trough on Jomtien Soi 5 to solve persistent flooding.

Public works technician Wiroj Jorsungnern led the March 28 work detail outside the Krua Surf Restaurant owned by one of Pattaya’s deputy mayors.

Workers dug a large trough at the beginning of Jomtien Soi 5 to connect to drainage pipes under the footpath on Jomtien Beach Road to allow for faster stormwater drainage.

A large steel plate was placed over the hole for safety between work shifts. The job should be completed within a week.

If only they'd built the Ocean Tower !

(Which, for those that remember, was supposed to be built at the other end of soi 5, across from where the Immigration office now sits.)

A massive hi-rise condo building adding 10s of thousands of liters of water to the problem everyday would have hilarious (for those not living there) !

Soi 5 jomtien is indeed a hot spot for flooding during times of heavy rain Given it is so close to the sea and after all these years they still haven't worked out how to drain it speaks volumes about the idiocy behind successive Pattaya administrations. So this action will not give much hope for residents in other parts of the city further inland that are regularly victim,s of flooding.

Not to mention that the gradient of this street was built opposing it's natural drainage route, a mistake that has been repeated in the Pattaya area countless times since it happened here.

I do wonder how long it will take them to develop the Jomtien Beach area drainage system to the same levels as Pattaya where it washes sections of the beach away every time there is a monsoon?

"....successive Pattaya administrations....." but same old mafia.
