Most of my cards have higher limits. So perhaps you are. £6k is relatively low. I had someone try to buy a car in Australia on one of my credit cards(when I was in London) more than fifteen years ago.

So a freebie meal and booze up at the restaurant for "all concerned" -  the Police, Tourist Police, and Immigration staff etc.

 

I wonder who footed the bill for that one - it would have been nice if the British tourists had paid the bill in appreciation for their "hosts" honesty!

I have no idea.ive purchased a scooter over £1,500 here with no problems.it was withdrawn through a bogus dance company in the US but it would of been my using the card in thailand that maybe sold my details on.

In my younger days, we would have all got away without paying anything. I can't see why the charge was simply not reversed. I am sure now he is really happy. His card jacked up and a bunch of Thai Baht in cash to deal with.

All that's missing in the photo op is a good Samaritan taxi driver who found 200,000 b in the  cab left by the Indian who was out looking for the farang.

Unless you go to Chaing Mai for a night out with food & drinks.. that's about the going rate !

They will try to take your hard earned lolly!

Im at a loss as to a credit card being honoured for that amount, unless he was a multi millionaire (and not a thai one) with a high pay level acceptance, that the bank proceeded, especially in a foreign country, all banks have limits on credit cards, for this amount it should have been rejected, i think they should stick to the thai taxi driver good honest type of story, at least we know thats all bulls++t, maybe the new way to go is the overpaid honest restaurant owner.

Depends on what your daily limit is set at.

You can set the level as you require. 

 

I know that if i put a transaction through for a significant amount I get a prompt and response is required to verify it.

Good to see honest people and the restaurant manager surely deserves some good publicity. Well done.

 

I always use cash when abroad with full awareness of the risks in bulging it around.

 

But definately rather cash,  then to feed the greedy credit card mafia in my homeland in Europe, who ripoff with their exchange rate and foreign transaction commission on each use. It also avoids any skimming or other scams.

Why not just credit the overcharged quarter of a million Baht?

Wondering what the cashier thought when punching in the numbers. How can you apologize for such a booboo - how does one explain that? 

In addition, there is good reason to get an SMS alert for debits above THB 1'000 and unusual high debits (like, say THB 20K or 50K) should be verified by the CC-company over the phone with the card holder prior to approval coding.

Works perfectly fine with Citibank here in Thailand. But when in India then do as the Indians ...........

I'm not sure this is proper honesty. If he had done nothing he would have been guilty of defrauding the customer but his quick actions meant such accusations would be dismissed.

Without judging people I have to agree. The inane, brainless comments on a large number of topics is truly breathtaking.  It may be an attempt at humour but often spills over into ridicule or abuse. As you say, quite pathetic.

Don't see anything special. The card owner will eventually find out and the cash will be claimed back via card issuing bank. Such things happen often in the west. If the Indian keep silent he will have big problem later on.
