BANGKOK, 12 April 2019 (NNT) -Don Mueang airport has installed personnel to provide safety measures and convenience for passengers expected to rise to nearly a million during this year’s Songkran festival.

Airport personnel at various points are ready to provide safety measures and convenient access around the clock for passengers arriving during the Songkran festival from April 11 until April 17. An average of 138,000 passengers are expected to use the airport daily. That makes a total of about 967,000 airline passengers during the seven-day festive period, accounting for a 18% increase on the same period last year. The total number includes 507,808 passengers on domestic flights and 459,643 passengers arriving on international flights. An increasing number of international passengers are coming from China, India and Japan with the highest number expected at 140,045 on Sunday.

A festive activity entitled ’’Saad Suk Songkran at Don Mueang airport 2019’’ is being held at the airport, featuring cultural and art performances and a Lord Buddha image for passengers to pay homage to on such an auspicious occasion.

Meanwhile, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has launched 46 vehicles to ensure safety for Songkran revelers in the capital city between April 11 and April 17. These vehicles include fire trucks, patrol cars, medical care units, automotive repair trucks and disaster relief trucks.

The authorities have stepped up measures to ensure road safety and to impose legal penalties on traffic violators for allegedly driving drunk and speeding or riding on motorcycles without crash helmets. Firefighters are on standby around the clock at 82 spots throughout the city.
