Trump to award Tiger Woods the Presidential Medal of Freedom

The medal is the highest civilian honour in the United States and is given annually to people who have made outstanding contributions to the security or national interests of the country, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavours.

And Tiger Woods excelled in one of these contributions?

This is being purely done to get Donald more media attention....not that he needs anymore.

Boy, I've heard it all now.   First you hate Trump, without whom our country would be prancing merrily along to join a dozen or more other countries who have tried and failed at Socialism, and now you dismiss one of the greatest sporting achievements ever.  Maybe none of you play golf, as you clearly don't know what you are talking about.  Tiger Woods, a black kid from an ordinary American family, with a Thai Mother and black American Father has become a legend in his own time.  Last Sunday, after eleven years fraught with divorce, public ridicule, and health problems that would end most men's careers, he completed a comeback for the ages, by winning one of the world's most cherished golf tournaments.....at 43 years of age, when most sports athletes are well beyond their productive sporting years.  Donald Trump and Tiger Woods are birds of a feather.  Each has reached a pinnacle most mortals can only dream about.  We should celebrate them, and their frailties, for we will likely never live to see other men like them.

Do tell why your hero St Obama got his apart from being black and white guilt, peace or something. He was the first president to be at war for his whole term. TDS on full display.

I'll thank you for not quoting me incorrectly and making assumptions based on nothing.  Nowhere in my post do I refer to Obama as my 'hero St Obama'.  I don't refer to Obama at all.  Just because I think Trump is wacko (remember his own Secretary of State called him a 'moron') doesn't automatically mean anything at all can be assumed as to what I think of Obama.

Trump cheapens one more honor, to a level similar to "participation trophies". I like Tiger as much as anyone, okay? Tiger could show some real class and refuse it... "Sorry, but what I have done is great for me, but it hardly qualifies me for what should be a high and rare honor. Comebacks just don't clear the bar"

Still more applicable than when Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize just for getting elected lol..

Sorry, but this is just wrong. Nothing against Tiger and his accomplishments.  Not condoning nor condemning his personal life, infidelity etc.  You get a few hundred million and every Miss Universe jumping in your lap and let's see how you handle it.  But this is just not what this award was meant for.  I played some golf with Tiger back in the early 90s at Los Alamitos Golf course in California.  I was stationed in Los Angeles at the time and played down there and Tiger due to his Dad's military background could play there also. I think he lived in Cypress California at the time.  I would chat briefly with Tiger on the putting green or the driving range now and then.  Just a casual hello.  And one late Sunday afternoon my buddy and I went to play a few more holes after finishing out 18 holes, Tiger joined us on the first tee.  We played holes 1,2 then maybe 3 and came back on 9 or 18 as I recall.  We had done enough walking for the day.  But I remember all the locals talking about "Tiger" but didn't think much of it at the time.  Every golf course has rumors and stories about some body.  Who knew how good Tiger would get.  I also am old enough (62 now) to have remembered watching Tiger when he was on I think it was the Merv Griffin show in the afternoon when he was like 4 or 6 or something like that.  There were not many TV channels back then and these afternoon shows were your only choices.  MIght have been the Mike Douglas show.  Too lazy to check that at the moment

I tend to agree with you.  Trump has broken many conventions, so this is just another one in his record.

You would have been playing with Tiger when he was just about to hit his stride. I'm familiar with the experience - a kid who was 30 yards behind me on driving, in the space of a couple of months is suddenly 50 yards in front of me.

From memory, it was the Bob Hope show.

I checked.  It was the Mike Douglas show, but it looks like Bob Hope was standing there watching that day as a guest on the show also.

As I mentioned I don't see any problem with the award, though I think it is premature. I am more concerned that being tied to Trump in this way will diminish him unfairly in the eyes of many and even worse may <deleted> up his game just when he's found it again.

Wife beating, drink driving, drug taking serial philanderer gets awarded medal because he can hit a golf ball. We do not live in a sane world.

a) not a wife beater.

b) medication taken, not drunk driving

c) has done a lot more than just hit a golf ball,  many $$$ given to charitable causes, and programs to get  kids into golf.  Try reading more than just Thai Visa to learn about what you write before giving incorrect opinions.

One thing that Mr Trump never was is Sportsperson.

Unfortunately, he suffered severe bone spur of the heel to prevent him engaging in any sport activity except playing golf.

This spur arrived just before subscription to the Army to go to Vietnam, thankfully he was able to dodge the draft.

But his bone spur disease allows him to play golf. And good on him. Maybe he can chat about various indiscretions with the tiger

Expect to see a lot more of Tiger playing well publicized rounds at Trump resorts in the near future.

Sponsorship by the backdoor.

Speculative, but, knowing Trump, this may be it. Tiger, having accepted the award, can’t very well refuse Trump if invited to one of his resorts for a quick round. Millions in publicity value for Trump resorts.

I thought his Mom was half Thai.  But I just did some research and don't see that. "Her ancestry is a mix of Thai, Chinese and Dutch".  "Tiger woods is 25% Chinese, 25% Thai, 25% African American, 12.5% American Indian and 12.5% Dutch.".   So what label do you apply to Tiger?  Cablinasian or something like that I think Tiger used once!

I think half and half does it for me.   Ridiculous to start going down this road.  My sister had the testing done and it came back 100% European.  Our mother's history is sketchy, but on Father's side it is 100% Ukranian Jew.   So much for DNA testing.
