Death toll nears 300 after five of the ‘Seven Dangerous Days’ of Songkran

ROAD accidents during the first five days of the Songkran festival have left 297 people dead and 2,807 injured with drunken driving again singled out as the main cause of the accidents, according to the Road Safety Operations Centre (RSOC) on Tuesday.

A STRONGER political will is required to take action against monoculture corn cultivation both inside Thailand and in neighbouring countries, or the transboundary haze problem will never be solved, environmental experts said, as Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai district continues to choke under hazardous smog.

Residents get free health checks in Yangmoen, Chiang Mai, as part of the Clean Room initiative launched by Chiang Mai University (CMU), Suan Dok Hospital Foundation and the Clean Air for All group to build safe refuges from smog in the province.

 

SINCE THE air in entire villages or towns cannot be purified in the face of the raging smog crisis in the North, safety zones have been proposed as a way of protecting the most vulnerable people.

Burglar drowns Pomeranian before stealing computer, cash in Udon Thani
