The world record for the longest duration "Human Wave" was smashed in downtown Khon Kaen on Monday, the last day of the Songkran festival. The previous record - held by Japan - was beaten by the Thais. The wave lasted 17 minutes and 41 seconds. It was started onstage by mayor Theerasak Theekhayaphon and traveled via thousands of people along Srijan or Khao Niaw Road to Friendship Highway then back and forth. It beat the previous Japanese record of 17 minutes 14 seconds. Manager said the world record was expected. Somporn Narkseutrong of the Guinness World Records Thailand office was on hand to confirm the achievement.
