I do pay tax on straight equity investments, REIT's, CEF's, etc. What are you talking about? I have many preferred stocks and preferred stock funds (PGX, PFXF) for example. The income from those are reported as dividends on my 1099s. Now I am a USA citizen. Are you saying you are a non-usa citizen and that preferred stocks dividends get reported as interest and are therefore not taxed? Even if your country somehow interpretes the preferred income stream as interest and not dividends, what makes you think that the interest is not taxable?
