Now my retirement visa is cancelled with more than 11 months remaining, i'm on a 30 day tourist visa and i have to get a Non O and the then reapply for a new retirement visa. You contacted the wrong place for info about immigrations requirements. The embassy may of given you the correct info if you told them you a had valid retirement visa. See attachment What happened was i got dengue fever and wanted to see a doctor outside Thailand so i flew out late on Friday night, something i regret. Your confusion is a common one. In many countries, there is no distinction between a visa and a permission to stay. In Thailand, they are quite different. Your permission to stay (optionally extended) ends when you lave Thailand. To protect your permission to stay (normally what you want if you do not have a valid, unexpired visa) you need a re-entry permit. If you ask an official whether you need a re-entry permit when you have a valid one-year visa, they may just tell you "yes" without verifying whether you really mean a visa. Also, if you ask a consular official about an extension of permission to stay from an immigration office inside Thailand, they are quite likely to give you incorrect information anyway. There is really no visa called a retirement visa but a OA long stay visa issued by a embassy or official consulate in you home country comes close to it. A extension of stay based upon retirement is an extension of a permit to stay you got from a visa. If you have a re-entry permit it has expiration date on it. "To keep your stay permit re-entry permit must be made before leaving Thailand" It's a sad story, that you lost the 11 months. But at the end everytime inform yourself about the conditions. Whenever someone mentions marriage visa, or retirement visa, I and those I talk to have always fully understood what was meant. It makes no difference what dates you put on the application form. The re-entry permits expiration date is the same date the permit to stay it is issued for ends.
