Personally I don’t mind hotels, condos, shopping malls , and casinos.

If those nice beaches with its beach clubs joints are still there then i think for me Sihanoukeville been really improved.

It's possible that Costa del sol and rimini style over development and the people it attracts detracts from the environment of nice beaches and beach clubs. Beggars, ram loaded Chinese tour buses, pollution, etc...but without the minge benefits of Pattaya.

Thanks meanwhile i am starting to think that Danang Vietnam might be a better option for me all together.

Have u been there?

We should do a thread Pattaya versus Danang the pros and the cons perhaps moderators can post it?

I have been to Danang.

I have traveled a lot around South East Asia.

Different people come to Thailand for different things, but for those who come to Thailand for sex, there is no other place in the world that can compete.

There is no shortage of sex on offer in Vietnam, but not to the extent Thailand has.

Due to the war, the tourism industry in Vietnam is quite young, but that gives it its charm.

The climate is the same, the beach water is a lot cleaner, the food is great, the people are friendly, it's very affordable, very safe, now well connected with airlines, and visa friendly.

It's basically everything Thailand was in the good old days.

Hi khun Heineken.

i see u already found the Pattaya versus Danang thread..????.

The way u describe  Vietnam it sounds excellent for me.

I not a fanatic sex tourist and i don't even hang in bars much. I usually have partners who have normal jobs but lately  am single.

i like asia foods, clean beaches, easy visas, big malls, good pavements, good internet, and lots of holiday makers (other foreigners around) near to where i live.

Thailand has managed itself to become an unpopular long term destination  for me by basically pushing out lots of happy long staying foreigner residents.

And yes i am completely uninterested with any Elite card offers!

Why don't you go and have a look?

I just had a look at Vietjet.  It's 2942 baht for a return flight, a week apart, for late next month.  Most of the cost was tax.  The flights were only 160 baht each.

I think you will find it a breath of fresh air from Thailand.

OP can go there and find out the hard way.

Unless he looks like a Chinese, there's nothing for him in SV. All westerners ha e moved out. Only Chinese casinos left.

Sent from my SM-J610F using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

What I recently learned is that these westerners have left Cambodia for Vietnam.

There is only one way to decide where to live, and, keep in mind, your mind will change in time. Time you all gave things a hell of a time thinking less about the future. Live today as if it’s the last day of your life. Know why?

I'm going to take AirAsia over there in July. Cheap if you take a Monday flight out.

Might only stay two nights.. Not sure.

Never been there, but after reading all the negative post, two nights might be enough.

I enjoy Naga World in PP so I'll be looking into what the casinos there have to offer.

If someone organizes a group tour in early July,, I might be interested.

Be brave mate and draw your own conclusions but you won't see much in 2 nights. Vietnam is a huge country and if you start, as you will, in one of the prime tourist spots I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Take Destiny with you it's time he made a move.

Just catching up on this thread and realized this post of mine could be misleading.

These flights were to Danang, not Sihanoukville.  I probably should have posted it in the Danang thread, started by the same OP.

Anyway, cheap to go to Danang.  It's a nice change from Thailand.  Don't bother with Sihanoukville, unless you want to do like I did and go and see the destruction for yourself, which, whilst interesting, didn't make for a pleasant stay.

There are currently 50 casinos operating.

91 total licenses have been approved.

So, soon there will be 91 casino's in SV.

The place is a shame and ruined forever.

So where is the new spot for down and out farangs in SE Asia?

160 Baht? So I don't suppose they give you a free beer during the flight then?

Actually, at that price, I don't suppose they bother with maintaining the aircraft either. Yikes!!!

Do you think you are safer on Thai Airways?

"Well, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) is now reporting that they had FAA inspectors in Thailand February 11 through 15, 2019, to assess if safety was up to ICAO standards.

The findings? Thailand failed, and 26 safety issues were found."

https://onemileatatime.com/thailand-fails-faa-safety-audit/

Yikes.  ????

Maybe their safety issues are as a result of them going broke.

"Well, 2018 results are in, so how did Thai Airways do? Not well, not well at all. Thai Airways has reported 2018 losses of 11.6 billion baht (~365 million USD), up from a loss of 2.1 billion baht (~66 million USD) in the previous year."

https://onemileatatime.com/thai-airways-losing-money/

Double Yikes.  ????

Meanwhile, Vietjet are expanding their routes, and you will read in the first link that Vietnam Airlines qualified for the Cat 1 safety standard.

There are many many more illegal casinos operating.

They rent a house off a local, for big USD per month.  They gut the place, and turn the rooms into small online casinos.  Really people are dealing real cards, but the player in in China, where there are no casinos.  It's all done over webcams / speakers.

Money is wagered through various means, but of surprise to me, We Chat Pay was a popular way of transfering money.

 trash everywhere, etc...

People think Pattaya is bad on this.  At least they have some semblance of trash pickup.  You know, a truck driving around with guys jumping off throwing the bags on.

I saw nothing in SV.

Just filth and stink and garbage everywhere.

A terrible terrible shame.

Could not open yours but read it on the site.

The below photo from the article is an example of just one plan for the area. Looks more like Hong Kong.

Things like this and talks of a Chinese military base.  Geez.

I was just thinking how 6 years ago I was sitting on the beach eating BBQ fish and chips for a couple bucks, enjoying a quiet evening.  It truly had a village feel and was a cool place.

Now, lost forever..

hated snookyville, but that was about three years ago.

absolutely nothing to do in the daytime. at night its pretty much sitting at bars on the main beach drag or victory hill, eating the same $3 buffett meals.

there was a bohemian type scene further dwn the beach south at a nicer beach area, but was not really my age group or scene. seemed to be a younger crowd.

again, just sitting on my thumbs during the day. they realky need to get some food variety down there and mix it up a little.

the girls were approachable without the wanting a hooker vibe that always seems to be there in thailand. liked them best out of anywhere i have been. warm and caring.

the cambodian males were annoying in the extremist. tuk tuk dudes following you right out the door. never shut up. always there. again, irritating to the point of anger or leaving the country. it was that bad. was around for about 6 months though. it builds up and wears you out.

if i ever go back its just find a lady and head for the hills or an isolated beach away from the cities and cambodian guys would be the way to go.

So true ! And you didn't speak about all the low so alcoholic and drug addicts foreigners who are there because they cannot be anywhere else, without enough money or rights to go to Thailand. Then they are saying that Cambodia is a choice ! hahahaha...

The problem is not even the chinese, it's the non stop blackout, water problems, trash everywhere, etc...

the Chinese have caused a lot of those problems, they bought the reservoir, they filled in the swamp which all the rain run off water used to run into, when i was there at Xmas nowhere had any running water, i had to shower using bottled water, was grim, now the place is flooded now badly
