observer90210
Was the driver on his usual 48 hour-Non Stop, shift ?
bdenner
This hits close to home and is disturbing. My step daughter was traveling by bus between Udon Thani and Korat through Khon Kaen last night, sure glad it wasn't this one! She has her own car but prefers to leave it here while away working. We, TW and I, often wonder which is the safer and best option after seeing this sort of thing?

So its the bus's fault then, not wet roads or a fleeing driver?
toenail
Can The Nation or Bangkok Post or Thaivisa have a special weekly segment of “The Bus Accident of the Week?” - sort of like the overloaded truck picture of the day...
ebean001
this road should be in question. where is the guard rail? where is the deep ditch? Something wrong here. it says it hit a tree. in the middle of a super highway? The deep ditch on the side of the road is questionable .

Mittrapap road where the bus went off has a deep drainage ditch in the middle of the road, and yes there are trees planted in it.

From the picture it looks like the light pole is poking out from under the bus. The tree fled the scene.

Just looking at the picture and without digging too deep, it went off the road, hit a tree and light pole while running into the ditch along the central reservation where the guard rail is. Asleep At The Wheel isn't just a great Texas country music band.

GinBoy2
Unless you are dirt poor, nowadays the flights from BKK, DMK to KKC and Nong Khai are so cheap, there is no contest in terms of safety. For pilots there are actually international rules around how long they can fly, as opposed to the yaba bus driver jacked up so he can drive non stop for two days

For pilots there are actually international rules around how long they can fly, as opposed to the yaba bus driver jacked up so he can drive non stop for two days For your information, I would guess that possibly 95% + of Thailand bus passengers are Thai nationals, and some of them, as you so crudely suggest, are dirt poor, but like to travel home, now and again, to see their family. When you take into account that your, so called, cheap flights do not stop en route to Khon Kaen, so anybody living in the likes of Phon, Chonnabot etc., would find it quite expensive for the onward travel from the airport, it makes very economic sense for many Thai nationals to use public transport. When you are indoctrinated to believe in all sorts of Buddhist hocus pocus plus believing in ghosts then the real world is so far departed from their own minds they have no grasp of reality. So hence these type of accidents are accepted because they come about through no fault of the Thai driver, rather , by someone putting a spell on one of the passengers.
