Your reference to the Lauda crash brought back memories of my first visit to Thailand from Australia with my former wife.

We were due to fly back from Phuket to Sydney with Lauda who had I think a code share agreement with Qantas.

The above event of course meant that we did not return with Lauda but Qantas.

Reading a report into the cause of the crash some years later I discovered that they had been experiencing intermittent problems for some time but followed Boeing’s recommendations

It sent a cold shiver down my spine to think that the fatal problem could have occurred on our return flight.

Obviously not our time.

I read this column every time.  Increasingly I am getting a little browned off at the autobiographical references.  I liked it best when the column was about Thailand not Rooster.

Writing a column every week must be a bit difficult, finding new stuff to interest the readers; the only guy I can think of to do this successfully was Jeffrey Bernard, and even he had to be unwell every now and then.
