webfact
Forest fires continue to plague Mae Hong Son By Tosapol Boonpat The Nation Illegal outdoor fires continue to occur in Mae Hong Son province despite the ban and the raging smog crisis. In recent months, Mae Hong Son has been struggling with haze most of the time. Exposure to the serious air pollution has become a threat to the health of locals. Authorities have blamed outdoor fires as the key cause of smog. However, illegal outdoor fires continue to be detected. Satellite images confirmed that there were at least 23 hotspots in Mae Hong Son on Saturday. Of them, 13 were in Sop Moei district. Kampanart Prachongpim, who heads Mae Hong Son’s forest-fire control division, said on Sunday that teams from several provinces had come to Mae Hong Son to help extinguish forest fires that were often caused by people. At least, two bushfires extinguished on Saturday were caused by people going into the forest to collect forest produce. According to him, by the time these forest fires were put out, about nine rai of forest reserves had been destroyed. WeekendRaider
if the ENSO is at all related then this haze season could be just a warmup drill. you don ‘t need to spend 5 years or so to get a handle on how Climate may really work out.... just remembering the 2015/2016 “Los Ninos” is all you need to consider for the haze thing......... as a possible trend which is in effect until there is evidence to the contrary. not negative thinking. make preparations and a Plan B and Plan C. and if you haven’t made a serious effort of reading up on where we are in 2019 on Climate, you ought to do some catching up. the PNAS ‘Trajectories’ report from Stockholm is a minimum basic read. it effects investing as well. even just the haze in the north could easily be on such a scale that it impacts more than just SE Asia. toenail
Unlike the Japanese or German way of thinking of being pro-active about natural or man made disasters- Thai thinking is to “no worry” and react after a disaster occurs. Sometimes I wonder if Siam was colonized maybe various procedures would be different today.

bubba
The Forestry Department should spend more time on raking the leaves, like Finland does. I hear Donald Trump will soon be implementing that practice in America.
