Philippine rescuers were scrambling to reach dozens of people feared buried under a building near Manila that collapsed a day earlier in a powerful earthquake, as the death toll climbed to 11.

The magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck northwest of the capital on Monday, heavily damaging an airport and sending terrified locals fleeing swaying high-rises.

The worst of the damage was in the province of Pampanga, which was the site of most of the 11 fatalities, disaster officials said.

Got a friend there who sent a message saying it was pretty scary. At first he thought he was just badly hungover but soon realised it was something bigger.

Was a good shake for 20 seconds.

People ran to exit ways and out of buildings as fast they could, myself included. Learned from the big earthquake 7,2 in 2013

SEE IT: Water from rooftop pool falls 600 feet down Manila penthouse during Philippines earthquake

Water from a rooftop pool was seen cascading 600 feet down a Manila skyscraper on Monday as a powerful earthquake ripped through the northern Philippines, damaging multiple buildings and causing at least 11 deaths.

The dramatic footage captured the moment when water from an 82-foot-long lap pool and a children’s pool poured down the side of the Anchor Skysuites as the building swayed in the 6.1 earthquake. The video was shared online by The Manila Bulletin and credited to Michael Rivo.

I'd want to get well away from tall buildings completely in case a brick or something came loose and fell on me.
