GOLAN HEIGHTS (Reuters) - Israel said on Tuesday it would name a new community on the Golan Heights after U.S. President Donald Trump as an expression of gratitude for his recognition of its claim of sovereignty over the strategic plateau.

Israel captured the Golan from Syria in a 1967 war and annexed it, in a move not recognised internationally. The United States broke with other world powers last month when Trump signed a decree recognising Israeli sovereignty there.

"All Israelis were deeply moved when President Trump made his historic decision," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a video statement made on the Golan.

He added that, after the Jewish Passover festival, he would "bring to the government a resolution calling for a new community on the Golan Heights named after President Donald J. Trump."

Trump's Golan move followed his decision in December 2017 to recognise Jerusalem as the Israeli capital, breaking with decades of U.S. policy over the status of a city contested by the Palestinians.

Israel has said separately that, in appreciation of the U.S. president, it intends to name a proposed train station near Jerusalem's Western Wall after him.

"A new community" Not a new town, a community is small a bunch of people, a town is a town, trust the Routers and other fear mongers to come up with the wrong and misleading headlines just to stroke anger an

and discontent in area that already has enough of it...

Nobody's "stroking" anger. They're stroking Trump.

Well how about that, a town called "The Donald". No doubt on Palestinian land!

Too many Patongos i guess, to know that the Golan heights was a Syrian territory before they decide to try their luck and start a war with Israel, again, and again, and again...

Syrian army came to liberate the Palestinians. To note that the Israelites attacked first again, and again and again...

Naming places in that occupied region after a foreign real estate broker that gived away Jerusalem to the non Biblical Israelites is not really smart...

Definitely not smart, but in the future when Trump is locked up and US support wanes it gives those from whom the land has been stolen a pretty damn good consensus as to which town should be designated for target practice.

As far as I can make out the US authorities support Israel's actions.

Trump is just the first to make this very clear.

To think the so called Palestinians could have had 80% of the whole area and the Jews just 20% before the 11 world war offered by the Brits. Then they were offered 50% after the war when the UN proposed the creation of two states again, again the Arabs refused and instead attacked Israel with 5 armies, they were beaten. Beaten again in 1967 they have refused 3 other chances of a two state solution, seems like they are not really interested in a Palestine at all, just the destruction of Israel.
