You must have been lost because  there are no bars massage places on these photos.

Not played away since April when I had a couple of massage stunners in Saigon, followed by two more in Phnom Penh bars. Lost interest since my pal died of AIDs in July.

Did drink plenty of Hanoi beer and Nada beer along with glasses of the freshly brewed stuff in beer street though.

Hi Britman

What were the drinks and food prices like ? Similar to Saigon ?

What time did bars/restaurants close ?

Cheers

If Vietnam is 20 years behind Thailand, how is it they have the above, and Thailand doesn't????

What a strange remark

Since when is the fact of hosting a F1 Grand Prix is a sign a development?

If so, what about the fact that Azerbaijan hosts one and the USA hosts none ?

The member suggested Vietnam is 20 years behind THAILAND, yet, Vietnam has casinos, an F1, and long cable cars, among many other things.  Thailand does not have these.

So, does that make Thailand 30, or perhaps 40 years behind Vietnam, and Azerbaijan, for example????

Vietnam is gearing up for tourism.  Thailand is still doing the same old things it's done for decades, and are now filling the tourism numbers with cheap Chinese and Indians.

Of course the US has a F1 race. Next one takes place 3. November in Austin Texas.

What is the difference for a US foreigner having a USD or a VND bank account in Vietnam to transfer money into from the States. Thanks.

Vietnam banks have swift codes.  You would internationally transfer money into them the same way you would into a Thai bank account.

Not possible to make eye contact with 50 different motorcycle drivers , when they are coming from six different direction at speed and driving on the wrong side of the road .

You are putting yourself at risk everytime you cross the road

I think his point is, though, that they take measures to avoid you (i.e. slow down a little, move left or right).

Here, all I see is flashing their lights at the soon-to-be-roadkill and their speed is maintained, they may even accelerate faster to put some fear into you.

Though, I believe turning the window wipers on would be more useful than light flashing, but anyway...

I did visit there , the place has a Koh San Road/ Pai feel about the place , Westerners far out number the locals . Many backpackers and tourists and the whole new town is geared up to accommodate them .

But that may not be such a bad thing and its only 30 minutes from Danang

Khao not Kho. Kho means island.

You make eye contact with the m/c drivers and step into the road at a steady pace while maintaining eye contact.

Magically they all miss you (cars and busses as well), while in Thailand they would have run you down.

It's very easy once you know the rules, you just need to gather your courage for the first few crossings.

In my experience, mainly around Hoan Kiem Lake in Ha Noi, you just close your eyes and walk.

When you trip over the pavement at the other side you've arrived safely as all the motocy will have magically parted around you like the Red Sea.

Or do what my mate does and wave an umbrella or walking stick in front of you when crossing.

Could that be anything to do with a 20 year war and another 20 years of the US government denying other countries the prospect of investing in Viet Nam?

And in the next 10 years, they will be 20 years ahead of Thailand.

Isn't there still some kind of law in Vietnam making it illegal for a foreigner to stay overnight in the same place with a Vietnamese woman other than his wife???  Doesn't that crimp the recreational activities a bit?

20 years ago the hotels I stayed in used to tell me that my girlfriend had to leave at 10 p.m. I asked them what they thought we would do after 10 p.m. that we hadn't been doing before then?

Oddly enough the government hotels would have a system whereby they 'pencilled in' the GF as being in another room, so if anyone came checking they were in the clear.

Nowadays, nobody asks if the girl turns up at check in with you.
