Admirers hope Piyabutr is not “too fast to live” kind

Piyabutr Saengkanokkul, secretary-general of the Future Forward Party, is travelling at the speed of light politically. A virtual nobody last year, he has come under a major media spotlight along with his party’s leader, Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, following Future Forward’s stellar performance in the March 24 general election amid a massive “new generation” fever.

Despite attacks from critics and the conservatives, the party under the young men’s leadership managed to come third in terms of MP seats won after the two rival parties contesting to form a next coalition government — Pheu Thai and Palang Pracharat.

Both Piyabutr and Thanathorn are facing legal problems stemming from their political activities. Piyabutr is charged with contempt of court and committing a computer crime after he criticised the Constitutional Court’s decision to dissolve the Thai Raksa Chart Party in March. Thanathorn is charged with sedition for his alleged involvement in a 2015 anti-coup demonstration. Both of them have denied the charges, insisting that they have only good intentions for the country.

"Piyabutr, aged 39, is an expert and notable scholar in French and Thai laws, with more than 15 years of experience in the field. He published many research papers, articles and books on constitutional and administrative laws as well as courts of justice. He also shared his lecture videos on YouTube".

A rarity in Thailand, an expert and respected scholar working in his proper sphere of operation, NOT a retired pen pushing General, and hopefully someone who knows what he's talking about. No wonder they find him scary.

You forgot to add that he's another Thaksin protege. If he's such an expert, how come he can't see through a clever crook?

Is he really?

Not according to this from Wikipedia.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piyabutr_Saengkanokkul

Piyabutr Saengkanokkul (Thai: ปิยบุตร แสงกนกกุล, born 23 October 1980[1]) is a Thai academic and politician. He presently serves as the Secretary-General for the Future Forward Party, and was previously an assistant professor the Faculty of Law, Thammasat University,[2] as a French and Thai legal expert. He is married to Eugénie Mérieau, a French academic.

Have you any links to suggest he is a Thaksin protege?

I hope Bear was just trying to be funny, since there is no such evidence at all and would make little sense. Mr T did not respect democracy,  free speech or human rights. People like Piyabutr clearly do care about all these things. Though I think some people actually label anything anti old farts establishment as being pro Thaksin, those peeps must have a lot of nasty nightmares. I hope Piyabutr and Thanathorn won't let themselves be distracted or discouraged by such cheap and silly accusations. Fight on.
