webfact
mu Space bids for NASA space project FILE photo Bangkok, April 25, 2019 -- mu Space confirms today that it submitted a proposal to enter into a space project of NASA. The satellite and space company has partnered with an undisclosed aerospace manufacturing company in the US to get qualified in the selection process. mu Space CEO and founder James Yenbamroong said: “We’re engaging with NASA to demonstrate our capacity to take up big projects and to validate the technologies that we’re developing, from concept to actual design.” According to NASA, a USD 10.5 billion (THB 335 billion) budget or about half of the US space agency’s USD 19.9 billion (THB 634 billion) funding for 2019 will be allocated to space exploration programs. One of NASA’s biggest projects recently announced is the development of a landing system to enable safer and more precise landings on the moon’s surface. “The concept that we proposed to NASA will address that. We intend to develop a lunar landing system that can provide terrain navigation measurements and hazard-related information to improve landing precision and safety, and is capable of autonomous control to direct a lunar module to a plausible landing location,” informed James. “With this improvement to landing, we’re contributing to developing a more precise landing technology that can be used for a wide variety of terrain on the moon, and thus ensuring safer lunar missions in the future,” James added. The successful project proposals will be officially announced by NASA in October 2019. mu Space, founded in 2017 in Thailand, develops satellite communication and space technologies to accelerate the adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) devices in smart cities. It plans to launch its own satellite in 2021, and to lead space technology development and encourage new space investments in Asia-Pacific. -- 2019-04-

Many locals seem to live behind the moon anyway, so perhaps such an aim is not as far-fetched as it appears to be.
