The chief of the Thai Department of Employment told Manager that some employers are still not aware of regulations regarding the hiring of migrant or foreign labor.

Petcharat Sin-uay said that employers need to tell the Department of Employment within 15 days when a foreigner is hired or leaves their job.

They must state the name, nationality and job description. In the case of leaving employment a reason must also be given.

This must be done within 15 days of the commencement or termination of employment.

In cases where hiring is done through MOU arrangements reports must be made within just seven days.

A contract of employment must be kept at the employer's office and a copy supplied to the worker.

There is a fine of 20,000 baht if the regulations are not followed, she said.

So the 3 million or so Burmese and Cambodians that come and go and change jobs.....this will be a reall headache for the Labour offices if employers stick to the rules.

Only through this would they maybe realize the absurdity of their outdated system.

Another problem is they are not willing to invest in competent staff to make the replacement. The shiny new 'one window' online system made for BOI companies is always broken and it looks like it's been made by a junior just out of some Bachelor in Computer Engineering.
