...this can only happen in a country where discussion is more important than action. What was for breakfast, lunch, and dinner at a posh resort in several meetings of high profile, influential figures to finally solve the problem?

Ni surprise nothing gets done in Thailand or repaired or fixed! What is the expertise of this general in water management, draining, water retention, pipes etc? Not a single civilian expert who knows the subject ?? This is a joke. On any subject ( fires, architecture, constitution, elections, lottery, beach chairs, traffic jams) a military expert will be dispatched !  Woaw ! I am impressed.  Please send us some to repair notre dame  solve the brexit mess, negotiate with Kim )

It always makes me smirk when an army commander turns up to do something like this that he is completely unqualified to be in charge of. This is a civilian expert's job to do and advise on. I can only guess that they think the mindless morons are impressed by the uniform/title/fruit salad uniform as they have been brainwashed by the system into thinking if an armed services officer turns up then the water will be parted ... carry on peons. Conversely, it's like sending fruit sellers to manage the border patrols.

It always makes me smirk when people who have nothing to do with Phuket feel the need to comment.

I take it that you are completely unaware that one of the many roles of any military is Military Aid to the Civil Power or MACP. This is the man who controls the water trucks and manpower that have been brought in from NST to run at least 46k litres a day of water onto the island. He is also the man who can get plant equipment out to dig the reservoirs deeper if it is considered necessary.

Instead of belittling the man how about giving him credit for getting involved in a rapidly deteriorating situation in Phuket. He may not be the expert but he has engineers under his command who are.

As an aside the Canadian military are actively engaged in MACP operations in Eastern Canada at the moment due to extensive flooding- I guess they should keep their noses out as well should they?

Just talk to the Governor, he has everything under control, no drought no problem no nothing. In his words "“All local administrative organisations must use their own plans to solve the drought by yourself,” Phuket Governor Phakaphong said.... Worst case scenario, call Uncle Tu and he can pull article 44 - simple as that!
