Pattaya Versus DaNang and the winner is?

I haven't been to Da Nang, but reading up about it, doesn't seem like it has much nightlife either, so that would be a pass from me.

 

Nha Trang does seem more interesting. Do the clubs go on till morning or close early? Is it dead on week nights or party all week long? I actually don't like Pattaya much, but I've enjoyed Angeles City (which is the equivalent in the Philippines) quite a bit on a recent trip.

Some people would consider a lack of nightlife to be a significant advantage.

BASed on news feeds i would never go to pattaya. but i think the weather is decent thier. in danang its totally exposed to the sea and it rains alot and i mean alot  .

From how I remember it Pattaya is also exposed to the sea..

The Gulf of Siam is very different to the South China Sea. Vietnam often bears the brunt of typhoons, unlike Pattaya.

It is cooler and so is Nah Trang.  The Thailand bubble is breaking.  Overrated by a large amount particularly given its decline recently with so many factors coming into play.  According to the world meteorological association Bkok is the world's hottest city and Pattaya and Hua Hin are not far behind.

I remember getting a massive vodka redbull for around a dollar the equivalent of two or three such bar drinks in Thailand at a cost that would equal 10 times the amount lol.

I was there recently.  Nice beach, good seafood restaurants (open air style with live seafood in buckets), decent hotels, limited night life.

 

A lot like Bang Saen - mainly a resort for locals.

 

Impressive resort in Ba Na Hills with amazing cable car network, French Village and Golden Bridge, a large but almost deserted amusement park in the town - feels like the amusement park in the Zombieland movie.

 

Hundreds of low cost Grab taxis.

 

The old tourist town in Hoi An is not far - interesting shops and restaurants, good to visit at night.

 

Great for a weekend trip, perhaps not ideal for long term living.

Much better to have most the population on bikes than in cars and trucks.  No traffic jams.  

 

Not a menace, as road speeds are lower than Thailand.  When crossing the road, just keep moving, the bikes will flow around you like wading across a river.  If you stop, you may get hit!

I was just there. It is set up for Chinese and Korean tourists. Very few western restaurants but rows of those giant seafood restaurants the Koreans and Chinese like.

 

Traffic is more lawless than Thailand with NO stop signs at the many many blind intersections ... constant motorbike horns blaring "warning" each other at all the blind intersections and roundabouts. Vietnamese use the horns all the time. VERY NOISY PLACE.

 

Lot's of new construction and it's going on at all hours.

 

On the bright side the beaches were nice and the city is a bit more spacious in places. Prices for hotels and apartments seemed pretty reasonable.

 

There is NO GIRL NIGHTLIFE scene similar to Pattaya. No beer bars, not go g bars. Nothing like that at all...if that's what your looking for, but I have heard there are some local girls who may be looking for foreigners for boyfriends. I got some smiles while out and about.

 

Shopping is very limited for western expats. Again it is geared toward Chinese and Koreans who make up the bulk of visitors there. Much more difficult to find western foods than in Pattaya. Pattaya has food land and Tesco and Big C. The Danang Big C is very small version of a Big C with very little of the same convenient western style or for that matter Thai style foods that are nice to get in Pattaya.

 

My decision?? I am going to stay in Pattaya and deal with the immigration red tape ... small price to pay for all that Pattaya has over Danang.

ive spent extensive time in danang in november. believe me it rains buckets that time of year. its horrendous and not just a mild rain. the development in danang is literally shocking.  chinese money i suspect. every beach has been eaten up by a resort or casino.  i like viet people but danang is just too iffy for weather in hight season nov to april. note ive not beeen thier in january onward. it might be ok then.............ps i trust personal experience over google

saigon is bkk on steroids...........im about as conservative looking guy their is and in hcmc i get offered weed and meth regullarly.  i like hcmc for the shopping mainly though. the traffic motorcycles in hcmc is shocking. you tube it

even though the viets dont have lights mainly . at intersections their a flow to what they do. u just have to get used to it. kinda fun actually..........trip of a lifetiime buy a moto in hcmc and ride it to hanoi or vice versa.

DaNang is underwhelming at best. Whole beach front should be bulldozed and start over with a plan. What is left standing, looks like its left over from the 60's. Nha Trang on the other hand has a great beach front, park area and is kept up nicely. No shortage of alcohol in Nha Trang, it is the Russian hangout.
