This place belong to the ex Thai massage parlor king Chuwit Kamolvisit and that place used to be a night market until one night a large group of thugs descended on the place and demolished it completely... funny how the wheel keep turning back...

You're talking about the former Chuwit Gardens near Suk Soi 10, a former privately owned public park that's been closed for the past year or so.

AFAIK, the current Thu., Fri, Sat, Sun-only night market is only a temporary thing, and Chuwit supposedly is leasing the land to developer Land and Houses for a big hotel, retail, office complex on the site. The only curious part is, since that development deal was announced one year ago, there's been virtually no physical activity on the site.... So???

A small private park in Bangkok’s Central Business District has been leased to developer Land and Houses Co. Ltd who will demolish it and build a mixed-used development on the site. Chuvit Garden is owned by Thai politician Chuwit Kamolvisit and was opened in 2006 after his arrest.

A mixed-use commercial project valued at THB6 billion will be built on the land, according to officials familiar with the matter. Land and Houses Board Chairman Naporn Sunthornchitcharoen already said that the company is going to sign a 30-year leasehold agreement with Chuwit in February to finalise the deal.

Yup...temporary... but supposedly going to be for much of the rest of this year, and the suggestion below seems to be they'll be expanding to more days instead of just Thurs to Sun....  The original timeline for the commercial project was to start sometime in 2019.

Their stated hours seem to be 3 pm till midnight...but someone posted on their Facebook page that many of the vendors there don't really arrive and open until 4:30 to 5 pm.... So YMMV....  Right now, with the weather, I don't really want to be outside at 3 pm in the afternoon anyway!

Still shows as Chuvit Garden when I look on Google Maps now...  even though they tore down the stone signage markers that contained his name when they originally closed the park.

Was there last night and had a good crowd. This isnt your typical night market but more hi so for want of a better word with steak and  seafood and lots of craft beer on offer . Lots of young Thais made up the crowd and plenty chilling seated at one of the 2 bands that were playing music at a normal level sound and not blasting the crowd. Tall beer bottles 100 baht , wine 100 baht and craft beer from 100 to 200 baht plus there were ciders being sold as well 180 baht

Very nice set up and well worth a visit

It wasn't referred to as a night market but a meat market I think? It was full of beer bars and even had an aircon gogo bar at one time.

walked through the new night market once. ground is covered with a big tarp and it covers numerous horizontal tree roots and other irregularities. really difficult to walk.

had pad thai where 2 managers were nonstop on sitting on mobiles and my table looked like it hadn't been cleaned after customers all night.

Yeah, my next question was going to be do they keep the beers in a tub of water like they do at the highly acclaimed Train Market?  Apparently, they have figured out loads of Chinese will come anyways, so why keep the beer cold?

walking in the night train market is a nightmare. the aisles were made way too narrow to acomodate even a % of the traffic plus the locals walking "sabai sabai" style. avoid

His penalty for having the Army come in at 4.00am in the morning years ago to bulldoze the place was to make it a Public Park, but they did not mention for how long.

Actually penance is probably the better term for it. Although Chuvit was ultimately years later convicted and sentenced in the illegal demolition case, he had the park developed long before the final chapter in that sordid legal process.

AFAIK, there was never any kind of court ruling or any government dictate that required him to develop a park there. Rather, I think he did it either as a public relations gesture to make up for the bad press of the demolition caper, and/or as a preemptive strike aimed at ultimately minimizing whatever penalty he was ultimately going to face from his demolition prosecution.

The original demolition occurred in 2003, the park was developed in 2005, and Chuvit and accomplices weren't finally/ultimately sentenced to two years in prison until 2016 (13 years after the fact!!!), though he only ended up serving about one year before his release in early 2017.

Then Chuvit Gardens was closed initially around mid 2018, if memory serves. About the same time he ended up serving another brief prison sentence of a month or so for failing to have properly declared all his assets as a member of Parliament.

dude you should attend a reading comprehension class. below is what i replied to, the night train market(highlighted in red, bold, italic text), overloaded with chinese, locals, etc etc, and 100% true about walking in it. a short walk from my home and been there numerous times.

I lived on Soi 10 for a year around 1999 to 2000.  They opened a nice little market there and even a decent restaurant at the back of the park.  It was also opposite Clinton Plaza which was a fun little collection of bars.

Lower sukhumvit was great back then.. Legendary.  When things are cheap and good, enjoy them while they last... Now, Sukhumvit is just a good litmus test to see how involved a lady has been with the game.

no worries.  i suggest you visit the train night market.  mrt exit thailand cultural center. if you arrive early it is more tolerable since less people but still packed.
