Best to go and have your own experience...Vietnamese are friendly, ambitious and welcome foreigners...

Thats funny. Both vietnam and Philippines forums may as well not exist due to the 5 posts a month made by a handful of expats. says it all really

Vietnam seems to be getting more and more attention as an alternative to Prayutland. I'm of that mind, too and am quite certain that instead of flying to Thailand when family commitments no longer keep me here. I will land in HCMC instead.

I never imagined that I'd not return to live in Thailand, but there are too many factors coming into play that are making it less appealing day by day. Perhaps if the value of the baht loses some strength and immigration/insurance requirements are confirmed and made reasonable, I may return to live there some day, but it's just not in the stars with the way things are now.

If you are in a good district in HCMC its nice city.

Good food, plenty of bars, coffee shops, western food for cheap.

Party areas for young people.

People, families that play, eat, dance etc in public places.

But overall food quality in cheap places is better in Thailand.

Traffic is more dangerous than Bangkok.

The taxi mafia is real. Way worse than Thailand.

But its very nice to see Vietnamese people that speak English, french, german, russian etc... no dual pricing for parks , zoos etc.

They actually care about their history and know about it.. really the opposite of Thailand.

If you are into “asian“ culture and History and religion i quess vietnam will be a interesting place for most people.

But if you prefer bangkok shopping malls , 7/11 and walking street and more “comfortable“ transportation like MRT and BTS , Thailand is the better place to be.
