humdrumdays
Tried to follow this on the forum but confused. Ubonjoe (hopefully correctly) says the the new requirements only apply in you are applying in your home country. Is this true. Surely they want to get us old farang who are already here? Where is that officially reported?
elviajero
At the moment the only announcements regarding the possible insurance are for Non-Immigrant 'O-A' visas obtained outside of Thailand. If it happens it follows the 'O-X' visa that was more recently launched and has compulsory insurance. There is currently no talk of extensions of stay requiring medical insurance.

Except by Thai visa posters who disagree with your interpretation and suggest one reads the announcements and make a decision themselves or call in insurance agent who may actually know something about the requirements.

When we start hearing of people making Extension renewals at Immigration being asked to show evidence of Insurance, or a police order comes out instructing them to do checks for insurance, I think we should assume it is not yet a requirement.
