Trump allows attorney general to declassify information about origins of Russia probe

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday ordered the intelligence community to cooperate with Attorney General William Barr's review of the events that prompted the FBI to open an investigation into links between the Trump campaign and Russia.

"Today, at the request and recommendation of the attorney general of the United States, President Donald J. Trump directed the intelligence community to quickly and fully cooperate with the attorney general's investigation into surveillance activities during the 2016 presidential election," White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said after Trump issued the directive.

The order also allows Barr to declassify any information he sees fit during his review.

Last month, Barr said at a Senate hearing that "spying" on Trump's campaign was carried out by U.S. intelligence agencies, though he later referred to his concerns as focused on "unauthorized surveillance."

Barr has assigned a top federal prosecutor in Connecticut to probe the origins of the Russia investigation in what is the third known inquiry into the opening of the FBI probe.

Trump, a Republican, harbors suspicions that the Democratic Obama administration ordered him investigated during the 2016 campaign to try to undermine his candidacy, and he wants payback against those he believes were responsible.

Of specific interest to Trump are the warrants that emanated from a secretive court that authorizes surveillance on foreign powers and their agents. Trump supporters believe the warrants will identify those responsible for the Russia probe that is still roiling Washington.

A couple of bones for Schiff to gnaw on to delay the inevitable, and to keep from losing more court challenges.

The entire report will eventually leak, better to just fully drain the bladder, Moscow Style as they say, now rather than just dribble out a few drops every day.

Strange strategy.

This is just more Trump blather and bullshit which will come back to haunt him, just like all his other threats and misdeeds. King of deflection.

True. Again he's called himself a "stable genius" when it's painfully obvious for the whole world to see he is the exact opposite. What a pathetic clown.

Oh, this isn't about the Mueller Report? Sorry.

Sure, declassify everything surrounding the original investigation, I have no issue with that. Just release it ALL.

That they've chosen NOW to release it is interesting? Or maybe not.

If there is a problem with the FISA process, and as much of that remains hidden to the public, then let's debate that.

I suspect though that the FISA process will continue to be used as is, while the Republicans clutch their pearls.

Get it all out to the Public.

All of it.

From the original triggers to the investigation right through to the full unreacted Mueller report and attachments.

AND

All communications between the DoJ and Mueller, and all communications between the DoJ and the WH/Trump.

I can see barr's release....

"trump good, obama bad, Hilary worse."

Ain't  intended to change the liberals opinion. This is the  first step  of many ,into changing public opinion that help's persuade the American independent swing voter and most importantly,  expose what the President has been saying for many months, his claims of a attempted coup by treasonous  officials in the intel agencies, that conspired with dems, foreign agents and the MSM.

Horowitz,Huber,Durham and Graham will have more to expose through their investigations

There's the fly in the ointment!!!

Barr has already been "accused" of not fully declaring the facts and siding with Trumps version of things........in other words, of being a liar, so what's going to change?

A bit like letting the inmates run the asylum!

It is intended as a distraction from the fact we are about to get sight of Trump's taxes and financial records with banks and lenders.

Barr is a Trump man, he loses his job when Trump goes, do you honestly believe he will be impartial on what information he chooses to release.

Barr has just back peddled on his refusal to hand the un-redacted Mueller report to Congress, he was also ordered by a Federal judge to publish to the public all redacted parts of the Mueller report that relate to Flynn.

On other fronts Barr can observe Trump's losing battle to keep his tax returns and financial records with banks a secret. The recently leaked memo revealing that the IRS and Mnunchin know they have no legal argument not to turn over Trump's tax returns.

Barr is no fool, he surely knows the legal and political jeopardy Trump is facing and that Trump will not weather this.

Hence his back peddling.

If the Gods are just, life in America is about to get even more interesting than it has been so far.

I'm agog to know just what part HRC played in the origins of the original report contributed to by the British spy. That seems to be where it all started.

However, I'm not sure if that is included in the Mueller remit.

Barr's not a Trump supporter, he's a company man. One of the many bench warmers that can be called upon when needed. He's not going to go to the wall for Trump unless he's got some material to work with and it seems like he thinks he does.

Spot on. Barr will only declassify information that may not be detrimental to Trump. It will be a biased selection. All documents confirming there were good reasons to start this investigation will not be disclosed.

It'll be interesting to see if the wagons begin circling.  Legal obstructions and delays.  The MSM characterizing the inquiry as a vengeful, political witch hunt.

By whom?

trump has given barr carte blanche (no that's not a porn star's name). No one can hold them back.

The Teabaggers (Mark Meadows, et al.) have been agitating for this for a few months, and have been banging on the president to let loose the hounds on the deep state actors, Hilary and President Barrack Obama. It seems like the president relented, probably ignoring the advice of counsel. Now he's dumped it on barr. Don't envy his situation? Suspect he'll tread water as long as he can, tossing out a few pieces of red meat here and there for the rallies and the base, while trying to avoid breaking too many laws for the Don.

For Captain Queeg it was "the strawberries", for trump it's all about "the oranges".

Playing the victim card makes trump look weak, whiney and sniveling - it's a bad look. He's much better off pretending to be the bully.

Interesting that you bring Nixon and Reagan into it. At least Trump has not been carrying out illegal bombing campaigns killing thousands of innocents like Nixon, or conniving to do nefarious things like Reagan in the Contra thing.

Neither of them went to jail ( as they should have ), so what chance do you give of Trump being convicted of anything?

Quite a high chance, once he loses the next election. Or even once he finally leaves office, if he manages to win the next election, which I doubt he will. The SDNY has been after him for 30 years. Now, they appear to have some evidence of fraud with Deutsche Bank, and who knows what else. The felonies this man has committed would boggle the mind.

You are aware SDNY answers to Barr, aren't you?

Also, If you have knowledge of Trump or anyone else committing felonies, you should report that to law enforcement.
