He defeated Future Forward Party candidate Yaowalak Wongpraparat by 248 votes to 246. Before the vote, Future Forward Party spokesperson Pannika Wanich proposed that both candidates outline their vision. However, Phalang Pracharat MPs raised objections. Pro tem speaker Chai Chidchob dismissed the proposal, saying the regulations did not require candidates to do so before proceeding to call for the vote. I am under the mistaken belief that the speaker should be the unbiased arbiter of the process of parliament, only casting the deciding vote in the event of a hung parliament. Having a stated vision opens the speaker to accusation of bias. Having several deputies, apart from increasing their pay packet, does not auger well for the regular attendance of the speaker in parliament. SABloke Posted May 27, 2019 Share Posted May 27, 2019 What's very interesting about this vote is the fact that FFP got 246 votes. Remeber, Thanathorn was not present, and the Chiang Mai candidate has not been endorsed yet. That means they technically got 248 votes. 3 more than the 245 seats they're supposed to have.
