The week that was in Thailand news: Complaining in Thailand - and sometimes even getting your own way!

For a nation that professes to be tolerant the Thais sure do a lot of complaining. Even though they are not very good at it. Their conciliatory approach - slathered unpalatably with the need to consider status and face above all else - often makes their whinging ineffective. Sometimes downright pointless. It becomes merely hot air - like the ramblings of a thousand Thaivisa "irate netizens".

Campaign on World No-smoking Day

YALA, 31 May 2019 (NNT) - Government agencies and educational units in Yala province have organized a campaign on World No-smoking Day. The provincial public health office reported that smoking cigarettes in Yala has been inclined to drop due to the continual campaign against it.

BANGKOK, 1 June 2019 (NNT) - The ongoing trade war between the U.S. and China has affected global trading requiring new measures in response. The Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak has called a meeting with Thai commercial attaches around the world emphasising the importance of new export markets substituting for those affected by the trade war, while overall exports this year are still expected to achieve 3% growth.

BANGKOK, 1 June 2019 (NNT) - The Chart Thai Pattana Party has reached a unanimous resolution to join in the setting up of a coalition led by the Palang Pracharath Party and to vote for Prayut Chan-o-cha as prime minister. The Democrat Party has been reserved over the issue, pending the settling of problems within the Palang Pracharath Party.

Commerce Ministry announces drug price control measures

BANGKOK, 1 June 2019 (NNT) - The Ministry of Commerce began to take measure to regulate drug prices on May 30 after discovering that some private hospitals overcharge patients for drugs. Drug dealers have been instructed to submit the purchase and sale prices of over 3,800 items under the Universal Coverage for Emergency Patients (UCEP) program to the Department of Internal Trade (DIT). They are also required to inform the DIT of the raised prices 15 days before the prices will be raised.

Phaholyothin Road to be partially closed at Central Plaza Ladprao

Indian rescuers to search for eight climbers missing in Himalayas
