webfact Posted June 4, 2019 Share Posted June 4, 2019 Bangkok Governor: Chatuchak market safe and no damage to tourism after fire Picture: TNA Bangkok's governor has declared Chatuchak Market safe after the fire at the weekend that damaged 100 shops. General Asawin Kwanmuang was speaking to the media on Monday saying there was no damage to tourism. Repairs would be made quickly and in the meantime tents for those affected were being erected. Sunday evening's fire - after the world famous weekend market had shut for the day - damaged shops over a 240 square wah area. It appears that an electrical fault, coupled with the extreme heat being experienced in Bangkok, was to blame and meters are now being replaced. Last 2 times I was there , there were electrical shortcuts accompanied by small explosions. Both were situated in the sprawling restaurant area to the side.
