A Rohingya man wanted for allegedly killing his Thai wife was found hanged at a friend’s house in Lampang’s Thoen district on Wednesday morning.

Police searched for Maw Maw, 51, throughout Tuesday after his Thai wife, Pattaraphan Srichan, 51 was found stabbed to death in her house in Moo 3 village in Tambon Samai in Lampang’s Sop Prap district on Tuesday.

Police found a motorcycle that the Rohingya man drove from Pattaraphan’s house parked in Wat Ban Pa Tan in Thoen, but were unable to locate Maw Maw until villagers informed them that his body was found hanged outside a house in Ban Pa Tan village in Tambon Thoen Buri.

He was hanging by a nylon rope from the beam on the side of the house. Police found a black backpack with a 30-centimetre kitchen knife nearby.

Police suspect that the man went to seek help from his friend, but hanged himself when he found no on was at home.

Friends and relatives of the couple said they had been living together for more than a decade. Upon learning that they both had HIV, the wife asked Maw Maw to return home to Myanmar and said she would remain and spend the rest of her life taking care of her own ailing health.

They said Maw Maw became angry and, thinking that his wife would go to live with another man, stabbed her to death and fled.
