Acting Thai immigration chief Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang spoke to the Thai media yesterday commenting on the case of the two Americans who had been arrested in Pattaya after spray painting a pick-up and walls in Sampeng, Bangkok.

Lt-Gen Sompong said that they had both been fined 5,000 baht and would likely be deported within two days. They would then be blacklisted from returning to Thailand.

The 28 and 24 year olds have paid 10,000 baht damages to four Thai victims for their actions.

Another person who the couple met in Bangkok is being sought and investigations are still underway to see if the group caused damage elsewhere in Bangkok.

There's no hurry with the deportation. Keep them in jail for a week or two, that should teach them.

Quite worrying that they deport you for minor offenses actually.

5000 BAHT fine is nothing, you can get the same when you don't report your TM30 form and get caught, will be interesting to see when they start deporting everyone who misses tm30 or 90 day reports, speeding, driving without thai driving license etc...

Maybe they did not have work permits?  Possibly also painting graffiti is a reserved occupation?

Jail for painting a dirty wall, you should think more. If you can.

No , you should THINK .

Full stop.

When some countries have gotten to a point wherein even 28 year old children think they can deface anything ( including some poor fellows truck ! ) with impunity , and even photograph their handy work,  then that country has a problem.

Thais rarely deface property , why should they have to put up with these scum?

It might be possible to term some spay painting as art, if perhaps the work enhances the surroundings and is not on historic or personal property. Problem occurs when the 'artists' don't know their art from their elbow, thus producing offensive vandalism. as in this case.

Pray tell everyone what penalty did the taxi driver get who beat two Korean women with an iron bar...???

Absolutely but it doesn't make it right. The driver should be banged up for at least 5 years.

It’s a real problem with that snowflake  generation of cry babies that need “safe spaces” and rarely take responsibility for their own actions. I’m with those who suggest a month in a Thai jail and make them work every day to earn their keep.

people calling for jailtime is ridiculous, 45,000 baht, being deported, and blacklisted, and a tremendous amount of stress is quite a serious penalty for what they did, but a fair one imo. Anything more would be excessive...

They should be jailed for having those names.

They should be jailed for being the spoiled egotistical brats they are. The names I have for them are, Cote Turnbeaugh, 28, and Louise Gollan, 24.

It's NOT that simple! I'm an American and I live in Thailand and what they did reflects on me and my countrymen. So I should at least be allowed to give them both a kick in the ass before they leave.
