SISAKET, 8 June 2019 (NNT) - A variety of war weapons were found in a canal in Sisaket province on Wednesday. The weapons had not been used by the Thai army. The Second Army Area spokesman declined to comment on whether they might possibly involve any political group.

Deputy National Police Commissioner General, Pol. Gen. Srivara Ransibrahmanakul visited Khukhan police station in Sisaket province and inspected the RPG and M-79 grenade launchers, AK-47 rifles, gunpowder and tear gas which had been discovered in the canal in Khukhan district. The war weapons were not made in Thailand and are believed to have come from Russia. The old weapons appeared to be ready for use. Besides, the fertilizer bags in which the weapons were found, displayed symbols and signs which are not used in Thailand.

Deputy Forensic Police Commissioner Pol. Maj. Gen. Thawatchai Mekprasertsuk said today the AK-47 rifles, M-79 and RPG grenade launchers were the same types of weapons allegedly used over 50 times during mass protests on Uthong road and outside Government House and the Dusit Thani hotel between 2010 and 2014.

Deputy Second Army Area Commander Maj. Gen. Akradej Boonthiam mentioned that the war weapons were found in the border area near Highway 24. The Second Army Area does not possess such weapons aged over 40 years. The Second Army Area’s intelligence unit and the Third Provincial Police Area’s investigating unit is yet to identify the owners of the war weapons. The authorities are yet to find out if the weapons might be meant for sale on the blackmarket or be used by any political group in the country.

the latest self-planted excuse to increase the already bloated military against trumped up perceived enemies

Or a convenient and timely find to help the disgruntled anti-army voters possibly see some merit in the extended stay of an army government.

I realize that this thread is only just getting started. As the story unfolds, I will be eager to read how this weapons cache came about. Like "discovered in the canal"! A wet canal (most are)? A dry canal?

If wet, then are these weapons still usable?

TVF Sherlocks are sure to provide some excellent theories.

Here you go getting your panties in a bunch...it's probably it is what it is, someone didn't want to have theses thing with him any longer and just dumped them in the canal... who's in his right minds will even think of starting a rebellion relying on 50 years old weapons and knowing full well that their lives not worth a cracker once they will be stopped...

Allegedly. Given the location of this district close to the Cambodian border its also very likely weapons of this type were popular and commonly in use at the time of the Khmer Rouge rule when escaping citizens were attempting to flee a massacre.

Which fits with the time period. With Thailand being very secretive about its involvement with the KR and efforts to keep refugees out of the country we are not likely to be hearing too much of what really went on.
