rooster59
Thaksin Shinawatra sentenced in absentia to two years in prison for misconduct in government lottery case tewit kemtong BANGKOK, 8 June 2019(NNT) - Former premier Thaksin Shinawatra was sentenced in absentia on June 6 by the Supreme Court in charge of criminal lawsuits against holders of political positions, to two years in prison for misconduct in the two and three-digit lottery of the Government Lottery Office which incurred 1.6 billion baht in losses. The Supreme Court ruled Mr. Thaksin guilty of involvement in the illegal issuance of the two and three-digit lottery during his premiership over a decade ago. Though the illegal lottery had gained over 120 billion baht in sales, it incurred over 1.6 billion baht in operational losses without anti-risk measures. Some of the sales money had not been spent in accordance with the objectives of the Government Lottery Office or was spent without detailed reimbursements. The court sentenced the absent Thaksin to two years in prison under the Criminal Code’s Article 157 and Article 83 and issued an arrest warrant for him. -- © Copyright nnt 2019-06-09 Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking Thailand news and visa info

Here we are, 11 years after "young husband" correctly diagnosed the situation (with less evidence than is available nowadays) - and we still have clowns here, in 2019, unable to see through the junta's threadbare nonsense. 120 billion flowed through the governments hands instead of the underground criminals hands. The two and three digit lottery was stopped after the 2006 coup - good news for the criminals I guess. Here's a question, why hasn't the junta reintroduced two and three digit lottery? Clearly it's a good moneymaker for the state? Perhaps the junta prefers the money flowing to wherever its flowing now. as for the loss....... In the early stages of its fact finding, the ASC attempted to establish whether the 37.7-billion-baht income of the lottery scheme had been misused and gone into activities benefiting politicians. But the probe team, led by Udom Fuangfung, was unable to establish this ground. It then opted for focusing on legal violation. It said the state lost tax revenues on digit lottery profits of 21.7 billion baht. But, in fact, the money had been kept with the GLO. http://www.thaiworld.org/enn/thailand_monitor/answera.php?question_id=
pornprong
Here's another beauty from 2009 TVF Thaksin alleges that PAD's provincial leaders operate underground lotteries Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra Sunday alleged that the Democrat-led government would not legalize two- and three-digit lottery because its provincial supporters operated underground lottery. He said provincial leaders of the People's Alliance for Democracy had been operating underground lottery so the current government did not want them to lose money by legalizing the popular two- and three-digit lottery. I think the idea of an online lottery was was brought up again a couple of years ago, again a no go. 'connda', 'they' don't need to 'figure out' anything, that family clan has so much black stinking dirty stuff sticking to its members' fingers, it must be quite hard for Courts to pick the most 'juicy' ones... I have no doubt it was aimed at the Shins' mafia, but having that 10 years' statue of limitation kicked out is, IMO, one of, the odd, few, good things the military dictators have done. ...The more so when the Constitution will, once..., be altered and those army christmas trees, and their families and pawns, will also have lost their 'immunity', and dragged in front of Courts, hopefully with not a Setang more considering than poor mushroom pickers! How's that reconciliation going? Not that I have 'analysed' this phenomenon, but, hmm, there is some line into it: when matters negative for the Shins' tribe appear on TV, there's like a 'gradation', 'strats' in the genuine followers (LOL) and the structured propaganda brigade. When even half true leads cannot be turned and twisted in favour of the Shins' mafia, when things are to obvious in their disadvantage, well, the better, professional(!), part of the propaganda brigade just ignores it, leaving some abused lobotomised darvish twisting fool have its second of imaginary glory, like a 'Fintan Stack', to name one. ...With an evergreen such as 'politically motivated', LOL, and calling the 'current mob' (of military christmas trees & associates?) 'illegitimate', as if anyone doubted about that part! But the silly man in his drift, wrote: '...and the current mob as illegitimate'! Is there a hope for the saving of this severed mind, maybe? Clearly admitting, in the writing, the Shins were a mob indeed, and illegitimate too? Well, at least, that's what it is in english. So, 'father' (of some lost souls?) were you admitting part of your sins, or did you just get lost in the fire of defending the undefendable? P.S.: try not to trip in the carpet's folds, after you deranged it in one of you obsessive voodoo dances, please, there is 'substance' in what you write, and you might some day start making sense, when you'll succeed controling your violent pulsions, you silly old boy. But give the TVF Shin faithful time and they'll pretend they're all made up stories, regardless of the facts. I think that's the whole point, the facts. As in the case of his first conviction, that for 'abuse of power'. I remember at the time reading a Bangkok Post reporter's take on this (been removed a long time ago). A portion of land became available in BKK, and was being sold by the FIDF. After a lengthy examination, and as decreed by the Supreme Court, the FIDF was found to be not be a part of Government. Thaksin's wife submitted a bid for the land at the first auction, which was subsequently abandoned on the basis of lack of participants. A second auction was held, found lawful, and Thaksin's wife was the successful bidder (they were all closed envelope bids). The charge of 'abuse of power' stems from Thaksin, as required in Thai law, signing permission for his wife to purchase the land in her own name (as is applicable for all Thai couples). Subsequent court cases reversed the previous ruling that the FIDF was not part of the Government, to then make it part of the Government. Thus, as essentially witnessing his wife's purchase, and as a state official at the time, he was charged with abuse of power (for nothing more than witnessing his wife's signature). It should also be noted that in the prosecution of him, the judges decided in a 4 to 3 majority to convict him, and certainly at the time was considered a politically inspired conviction, notable for the subsequent propaganda that labelled him as being convicted of corruption (whereas the reality is that he signed consent for his wife to buy land, something any Thai husband has to do for their own wives to do the same). We've all witnessed the shenanigans of the Electoral Commission during these past few months, and the manipulation of laws and criteria to make the desired end result fit those with the biggest clout retain power. The circumstances of TS are no different, and the continuing prosecutions for what in effect are bogus charges are made to publicise and promote public outrage. The same fate awaits (no, already happening), the Future Forward Party leader. Meanwhile back at the ranch, those whose behaviour and unexplained wealth during the last 5 years, will continue to drink at the fountain of privilege and opportunity, aided by those other parties for whom politics is nothing more than a means to gain access to power in areas of high national spend. Not that they would take advantage of controlling significant budgets, contracts, and purchasing powers of course.
