A three-year-old boy was run over by a six-wheeler on Sunday morning as he was riding his bike outside his grandparents’ home in Phrae’s Long district.

Upon learning of the fatal crash at 7.45am, the local precinct’s inspector Pol Lt-Colonel Thanom Kanthiya led rescue workers to the scene at the Mae Lan Pattana village in Tambon Huai Ore. Upon arrival they found the boy’s body with severe head injuries and the truck driver Somchai Kanha, 55, with his undamaged vehicle.

Initial probe showed that Somchai was transporting rocks from the Ban Pin area and was driving down the road when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the little boy. The child had been living with his grandparents as his parents had separated and were working in other provinces.

The district’s police superintendent Pol Colonel Bumrung Nomsian said Somchai was initially charged with reckless driving causing another person’s death.

The deceased boy’s mother, Jenjira Saenthanu, who works in Chon Buri, said her son had called her at about 7am and said “I love you, mum, please don’t be stubborn…”, adding that an hour later she learned of her son’s demise and rushed back to Phrae.

Load of rocks.

Lost control.

Dahh. Family neighbourhood. Kids at play. Stupid as stupid gets.

Condolences to the family. A regrettable loss of a young life. So sad.

But ...... The driver did remain at the scene!

See  kids on the roads  all the time, dumb parents, kids and roads especially at THREE  years  old, parents  should be held  accountable! Roads are  not  playgrounds.

Seriously, how fast was he driving on this narrow road that would cause him to "lose control" of the vehicle. I think he was doing something else whilst driving. Using his mobile spring to mind.

Unfortunately this is very common in Thailand. Here people believe that children can take care of themselfs directly after birth. Other countries very well know that they should be trained in driving on the roads, and not be alone together with possible traffic before the age of 7.

Sad loss of a young life, and hopefully the poor boys soul finds peace. Unfortunately I can´t fell either for the irresponsible granparents or for the real parents who left the care for the child in other hands.

Regarding the driver of the rock truck. That´s just another blind moron with a standard excuse, he thinks is going to make people feel sorry for him. Just put him down on the road and drive over him, twice.

A lot of truth in what you post here... sadly it'is all too common, but no-one ever learns or believes it will ever happen to them!
