PHUKET: Police are investigating the death of a 33-year-old Australian man who was found dead at a Patong hotel early this morning after a suspected fall while trying to scale the hotel from the outside trying to get into his room.

Officers were called to the C&N Hotel on Rat-U-Thit 200 Pi Rd at about 2:15am, reported Lt Col Patiwat Yodkwan of the Patong Police.

By the time police had arrived, rescue workers had already rushed the man to Patong Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Col Patiwat noted in his report.

What is with Thailand that so many people, mostly tourists, dying by falling off balconies and other lofty structures? is this some sort of a curse or pure bad luck?...

In this case, just drunk it seems.

Par for the course...

There was one not long ago, where someone had been taken to hospital, treated and released before police even got there ????

Same happened in our city, but the guy didn't die. He forgot his key, nobody was around to open the door for him in the early morning hours.

He was very intoxicated, lost control and fell a few floors. He was very lucky that nothing bad happened to him.

Scaling the outside of your hotel to get into your room I would call insanity!!!!

with the report that a witness saw him climbing over his balcony railing I would think this comes down to stupidity..

 Or his helmet

His helmet was probably the instigator of the problem. Just like most of us!!

Who doesn't look back on life and wonder about how we survived considering all the stupid things we did, generally when pissed.

have seen similar stories from there.  Remember a few years ago a guy tried a similar thing, fell and got impaled and stuck between floors.  Rescue crews did not get him down in time.  he died.  Video showed the man in pain and calling out.  The frustration of being in that situation...

I think this person had lost the keys and tried it through the balcony, but what I do know is that the height of the railing in many hotels does not exceed 70 to 80 cm, while in most Western countries it is standard on Is 130 to 150 cm

if he was climbing over the railing to gain access what difference does the height make other than the shorter one would have been possibly easier.

Nearly always a deadly combination of booze and low balconies.
