webfact Posted June 10, 2019 Share Posted June 10, 2019 Before and after: Valentin's joy at being in Thailand turns sour after overstay arrest Picture: Facebook Valentin Finabirov A man by the name of Valentin Finabirov was arrested at a shop in Phang-nga in southern Thailand by the local immigration police. He was found to be on 1,206 days overstay in Thailand and is now in custody. Pictures on the man's Facebook page showed him happily enjoying Thailand. A picture on Naew Na showed him hidden behind a piece of paper as Phang-nga immigration officers grinned. They said he was arrested contrary to Section 81 of the 1979 Immigration Act. A common expression in Thailand is som nam na and it basically means a person gets what they deserve. I have to jump through the hoops in order to stay in Thailand and my Thai wife had to go through a similar rigmarole to visit the states. The rules and regulations to visit or live in either country can be exasperating and at times simply silly, but they are necessary. Som nam na, dude...
