landing suvarnabhumi Airport

Right, it is not only time in Thailand, but how long you have been away. What is your history of visits in the last 12 months? We would still not be able to give a firm answer, but can probably indicate the likelihood of trouble.

If you haven't booked yet I'd fly to malaysia or laos and enter thailand by land border instead.

If you do fly in try to choose a queue with a young male officer, they care less than women and older guys. Watch the queues and see which officers are sending people away for questioning. Have 20k baht equivalent in cash and an onward ticket booked.

Malaysia Pedang Besar entry-point looking tougher from recent reports...20-minute interviews and supporting tourist paperwork requested and analysed...(hotel booking/flight out/money).

P.Besar was the alternate to tougher one nearby...Sadao...in recent times.

The chances are high that you’ll be let in.

+1

Arriving by air with an METV (which is not the easiest to get).

Would be surprised if they make trouble.

Interesting topic.

I am in a similar situation and will report too whether I will be let in.

3 years of ED visa, with some re-entry permits in between.

Last year about 8 month in Thailand, 4 months away with re-entry permits.

Away from Thailand (this time) 7 weeks.

Also going to BKK next week and from Germany. ลุ้น ????

Entering visa exempt this time.

It would give you comfort if you tackle the issue this way, bitte: why should you be denied entry? are you breaking any rule in the book? an onward ticket to laos might be a better option than coming via a land border i think.

what does it look like when an arrivee is sent away for questioning? do you see them being escorted away by a guard?

Based on threads I've seen on here, I'm wondering if denials on entry have reduced in number in the past few weeks? Back in March / April under the old boss, reports of these were coming in thick and fast, it seemed like there was a cry for help from the detention room almost every day.

I have been thinking exactly the same thing and I have been thinking wondering if some of the following is happening?

1) People are applying for correct longer term visas I.E retirement visas or Elite Visa?

The processing time for Elite visas used to be a few days now it is a month or 2, due to demand?

2) Since big joke "resigned" their policy has softened?

3) People at higher risk are avoiding Air entries and going to land borders for the time being?

unfortunately it is nearly impossible to know if you'll be denied or not, it is best to have a plan B.  i don't have any personal experience with denied entry, but from what i've read here on the TV forum, it is best to avoid signing any forms if you are denied entry (just say you won't sign forms written in thai as you can't read thai).  those forms may/will result in you paying a fee to stay in a room at the airport and means you'll almost certainly be sent back to germany - without a choice of buying a ticket to a nearby country.

if you don't sign the forms, it is most likely that you can buy a ticket to a nearby country and then use your METV to enter via a land border.

if possible, i'd print out some bank statements that show you have the equivalent of 800,000thb in your german bank account and plan to apply for a non imm O (or O-A) based on retirement once you turn 50 later this year.

Almost certainly number 3. It’s nothing to do with BJ (2.). A few will have moved to appropriate visas (1).

Agree somewhat, in that there's likely been a recent shift to land border entries recently. But there has been a switch in focus following BJ's replacement, at least according to reports on here. One is the denial of airport entries - reports of this happening on the forum have dropped off hugely since back in March and April. A second is no more weekly roundup of several hundred outhaw foreigners, something that Joke was so proud of.

For those believing immigration now has a more benificent ruler, don't be fooled - the new chief seems to have gone for enforcing a hard line approach on long standing (and mostly dormant) laws. Aside from attempting to kneecap the Non O/A as a friendly visa option, the other recent headlines now involve raking in fines from foreigners on the processing of 90 day reports, extensions et al, due to the absence of a properly filed TM30 report.

On what basis do you say this? He's been living in Thailand for two years on tourist visas. Isn't that exactly the kind of person being denied entry?

Looks like from the post immediately preceding yours that he got in OK!

@Otto2910 - but maybe best for you to obtain a non-OA visa in Germany after you have turned 50 in October.

Don't go in the line where a women IO is in the booth

I would agree with that, I got stopped for having spent too much time in Thailand (I was working 28 x 28) that was 14 years ago, yes it was a female IO.
