TrueVisions bags exclusive EPL broadcast rights

TrueVisions Group has acquired exclusive broadcast rights for the English Premier League (EPL) for the next three seasons, starting from 2019-20 to 2021-22.

All 380 matches will be broadcast on all platforms -- TrueVisions, TrueMoveH, TrueOnline and TrueID -- a statement from Thailand’s largest pay TV operator said on Wednesday.

The deal came after an agreement between Premier League and Facebook fell through in March this year.

The social media giant had agreed to a deal in May last year to land coverage of English football’s premium event in Thailand, Laos and Cambodia with a £200-million offer.

Birathon Kasemsri, chief content and media officer, True Corporation, said TrueVisions will be the only network in Thailand to show all the action of the English Premier League, with live broadcasts, reruns, and highlights of every match.

They will make available six channels for broadcast of the world’s biggest football league, which will kick off the new season on August 10.

TrueVisions has also been given a live and on-demand digital broadcast licence across all platforms so football fans can enjoy the excitement of the matches according to their own convenience and lifestyle, he added.

“Brace yourselves for the most complete English Premier League experience ever. And we will proudly present it in new and innovative ways that will more deeply engage all fans throughout Thailand,” Birathon said.

Further details including its format, how to watch and promotions for both new and existing customers will be announced soon, the company said.

TrueVisions has acquired the broadcast rights directly from the Premier League but the firm refused to reveal how much the deal cost.

TrueVisions in the past had won the rights to broadcast the EPL for several years before Cable Thai Holding snapped up the rights for the 2013 to 2015 seasons with a Bt10-billion bid.

In the last three seasons, Truevisions has sublicensed the broadcast rights from beIN Sports.

Premier League director of broadcasting Paul Molnar said they were very pleased to welcome TrueVisions back as a broadcast partner for the next three years.

“They have exciting plans to make our competition available on multiple platforms, and we look forward to seeing fans in Thailand enjoy the best Premier League action,” said Molnar.

Meanwhile, TrueVisions is trying to acquire the broadcast rights for Champions League games in the rest of the two seasons after Thailand’s vast army of football fans were left bitterly disappointed at not being able to watch last season’s games.

The rights to broadcast the Champions League from 2019-21 seasons were awarded to DAZN, the parent company of goal.com.But the website failed to deliver the broadcast in Thailand throughout the last season. It remained unclear if the fans will be able to watch games in the rest of the seasons.

Will it be an extra cost on TrueID? Now the Bein channels are free with internet subscription. Gotta make up all that expense somehow. Might be enough to make me into a Spanish fan...

As long as they keep the dual language option then I can't see it being much different to what they offered for the previous season. The good news, for me anyway, is that Facebook didn't get it.

At least I won't have to listen to Bein's Peter Drury and Jim Beglin commentary team.

BeIN Sports was less than 200 Baht a month including catchup.

With even more games being late kickoffs next season catchup will be even more important.

Could get it on your device and send it to you TV.

I have no intention of getting a True package.

I hope so. CTH used to show it on one of their six channels, but then True dropped it when they took over via Bein. Maybe Bein didn't broadcast it, or it wasn't part of the deal between True and Bein. If True are buying directly from the EPL then the chances are good that they'll devote one of their six channels to it 24/7. I'd guess that the price might be very good too, if the last three seasons are anything to go by.

Not that I watch the matches via True anymore.....????????

Just watch it for free through an Hdmi to the TV. Watch the full match replays or highlights the next day through reddit. That True mob overcharge and have lousy service.

It cost 199 a month the last three years. How cheap do you want it to be, and how much would it cost where you come from?

Jim Beglin's voice drives me nuts. I got stuck with him recently watching one of the matches until I managed to find another source.

Rubbish. I have nothing but praise for True Visions being a customer for 19 years. Excellent service and value for money when considering how much it would cost to go and see one EPL match live in the UK. I presume you are one of those persons who want everything for free!!

No it's not. Last time (3-4 years ago) I paid the bill it was about 1600baht a month. And they still had the nerve to show ads every 7 minutes. Hate them!

You're quite right, when CTH held the rights we got pre match in English as well as the SkySports pundits every night ot the week. Hope True give us the same options.

A false equivalency. Do you compare costs of going to a live music show/festival with watching it on tv also?

Bein charged 199 baht month which I could watch on catchup the following morning and chromecast it to my big TV. At one stage it included all other European leagues as well as champions league. Dumped True immediately when this happened- dreadful rangecof programming .

6 channels plenty. 10 games are only at same time on last day. They will just take over normal entertainment channels for that.

2 Bein sports channels were in SD on a Saturday. ch 695 and 696.

True not released package yet. I fully expect an increase to current super soccer deal. To justify that, they really need to do a deal with DAZN for champions league. That being said, UCL been free on Youtube recently, so who cares.

I don't recall having any complaints personally when Truevisions had the Premier league rights a few years back so I'm very relieved that one of Truevisions or BEin have it for the next 3 years and not Amazon or Facebook or newbie on the block (like CTH were).

Last season watching the CL games here was a right mess so let's hope Truevisions (or BEin) get those rights too.

Yes, I totally agree. I remember those years pre-CTH (which soon went bankrupt and had to be bailed out) when True had exclusive coverage of EPL games and was included in my Gold Package subscription.

I'm wondering how this is going to play out now....Think we can assume that all the PL games will now be shown on True's own channels, so what will become of the 4 Bein channels? Worth remembering that Bein has the FA Cup rights for Thailand for the next 5 years, so assume they (Bein) would want to keep their channels on True, and vise versa?

Also, waiting with baited breath if True are going to have additional pricing for the PL, or maybe you would have to upgrade to Platinum to view? FN: Bein's 4 channels are available with Platinum.

Any guesses are welcome? Blue?

Even they're better than having to endure the irritating voices of Thai nonentities babbling on inconsequentially pre-match, post-match and at half-time as we've had to suffer with Bein these past 3 seasons, surely?

Maybe Truevisions will keep 1 Bein channel for the FA Cup, La Liga & Serie A and ditch the rest? As I recall, before Bein started screening live EPL games via Truevisions 3 seasons ago, Truevisions did include 1 Bein channel in certain packages.
