BANGKOK (NNT) - The government has confirmed that its project to provide free lunches for primary school students is not being canceled. The government has instructed related agencies to create a better understanding of the project among the people.

The Deputy Government Spokesman, Lt. Gen. Werachon Sukondhapatipak, says some online media outlets had reported that the government would scrap the free lunch for primary schools project, starting June 30. Lt. Gen. Werachon said the reports are false, as the project is important and essential. Besides, the Ministry of the Interior and other government agencies plan to improve the quality of the lunches and milk for primary school students, so they can fully grow and develop normally. The Prime Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, also insisted that every project will be carried out as usual.

"The Prime Minister has instructed related agencies to create a better understanding with the people, so they won’t be misled by false news. According to the Ministry of Education, the Office of The Basic Education Commission (OBEC) has ordered the Secondary Educational Service Area Offices and schools nationwide to build a network to provide free breakfasts to economically disadvantaged students, and any students who have not had breakfast so they can learn more in class."
