snoop1130
Bhumjaithai MP faces probe over Prayut vote abstention By The Nation file photo Bhumjaithai MP Siripong Angsakulkiat is facing a party probe after abstaining from voting for Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha to be returned as premier. Siripong was the only MP from the parties in the pro-junta bloc who decided not to vote. The party leader Anutin Charnvirakul said earlier that the MP had the privilege to decide whether to vote and there would be no consequences. However, at a party meeting on Thursday, it was agreed that a committee should investigate the case. Siripong is due to testify next Tuesday before the committee and, if found guilty, could be expelled from the party, said Saksiam Chidchob of the party's secretariat. Eric Loh
Khun Siripong, please consider leaving the party. The party don’t deserve someone like you.
Brigand
Looks like the Thought Police are all over everyone here and for the future. A nicely compliant rubber stamp everything to a single person's whim ... doesn't bode well as seems they are in the process of following the China model. holy cow cm
They need to leave the guy alone. He doesn't have to like Prayuth and they can't make him like him. Bhumjaithai is a disgrace to the people.

bannork
The constitution stipulates voting for the PM is a free vote. He could legally challenge any action they take against him but who would want to stay in a party that hates you?
lemonjelly
This is the Junta exerting their power. Schools received visits from the military today because some of the students had prepared politically themed offerings for Wai Kru day.
madmitch
Great. Expel him from the party. He's an elected MP. Maybe he'll join the anti-junta alliance.

If he is an elected MP, he gets to keep his seat and can then join any other party or organisation reducing Bhumjathai's negotiation position in the parliament, imagine if he joined FFP. Talk about cutting one's nose off to spite their face. As a party list MP things could be different, I would be interested to see what happens there, because unlike Abhisit he did not resign, so does the party then get the chance to replace the expelled MP or does the party list seat go to the next party with sufficient votes? Either way Siripong showed more moral courage than the rest of the party hacks. Careful what wish for it might come true.

People get expelled from political parties all over the world for not towing the party line. Some times they're censured, sometimes loose position or sometimes kicked out. If you're kicked out in the UK you don't loose your seat in the House unless you resign. You can choose not to resign and stay on as an independent to the next GE. Wonder how it works here? In Singapore, the PM asked for encourages MPs to speak their mind in the population paper debate. However if this is a whipped vote, then the MP who don't toe party line will be asked to resign. So it depends on whether the voting for the PM was a whipped vote. I would think UK will be the same.
