British expat and Hua Hin bar owner arrested on eight year overstay

Recommended Posts

Why is it if you are a Brit, European or American you are an expat. If was from any other place he would be called an immigrant.

Now, I wonder why? 😉

Balls of brass to have overstayed that long.

Probably shot his mouth off to too many customers about his overstay situation....

Let´s hope more in the same situation talk to much about it too.

Interesting no one is commenting on the old guys mental health issues reported in the op. It can have a debilitating effect on people affected and lead to situations like this.

For almost 8 years?

Using the term “sack of shit “ reveals the Wild West Country you come from!

I appologize deeply for using such a foul language, as I have also been varned against it. However, that concludes my belives that it´s totally appropriate in this forum to say whatever about the description LOS (Land of Smile), but when it comes to do the same to LOG, then it was forbidden.

Over to you, @wreckingcountry. Actually you can not be more wrong. I am from the LOV (Land of Vikings). With Wild West, I assume you are referring to US of A and the early 1800´s.

It´s just another word for the same thing. people that use it like you are mentioning are using it with the wrong focus. The only difference I can see between the words would be that an immigrant also can be used as somebody seeking asylum or are in the process of expatriation. An expat in normal talk is referred to a person that has been residing in a foreign country for some time. Otherwise all the same.

His passport expired in 2011 also?

Incredible that he was able to run the bar for so many years on overstay.

Hope he gets some assistance back in Old Blighty for his depression.

I have heard it said that an expat has the intention of eventually going home and an immigrant doesn't.

However it has become common that expats are white and the rest are immigrants.
