Why not use the part of the brain that has not been used and make "hotel license" applications easy and simple with distinctions for large hotel, small hotels and individuals?

Set basic requirements instead of this many meters from the road and so many meters of green space and all the rest.

Then all people can easily get legal, pay taxes and everyone wins.

But, NOOOOO thats just too simple, lets make getting legit unobtainable so people are forced to do it illegally, but will brain storm on how to hunt them down, instead of on how to make it easy and simple and collect taxes from it

It's even better because the TAT and other tourism authorities encouraged people to build homestays in the north (isaan and co), even gave them subsidies, made advertisement movies for more tourism there that are running in planes etc. and these are now exactly the people who won't get a hotel license ever or worse go to jail without even knowing what's going on.

Can't make that shit up.

Bureaucracy - that specialist subject that doesn't require anything to be made up.

Just pit one government department against another with the confused public as the chess pieces.

Prime example:

I know, let's prosecute people for not having a darts licence. Then when they request one, we'll tell them we haven't invented it yet.

But you realize how serious this is and how it can influence the future and peoples lives.

With Prayut weighing in with his article 44, think of the consequences.

Small operators and individuals are hunted down, arrested, briefly jailed, fined and forced to close down

Thats at least 90% of accommodation in Thailand.

Thousands if not hundreds of thousands out of job, empty condo's

Tourists can not find affordable rooms, and simply do not come

Tourists who willing to pay top money, cannot be accommodated because not enough "legal hotels

Ok, will brain storm once we lost 90% of tourists and will start to issue hotel licenses, highly unlikely thousands who lost it all would be coming back to reopen.

Yay, great thinking and planning , and next year will be welcoming 40 million tourists

Yes, I fell foul of that one.

When it was announced that a licence would be required, I stupidly did the right thing and found out there was a new Thai-Australian company set up to handle PRS payments (Performing Rights Society).

This was for 'foreign' music, not Thai. IIRC it's Grammy who handle the licencing for Thai music.

I even went to the trouble of going to Bangkok to hunt down the Thai-Australian company. Paid for a licence, and received a certificate.

Months later when the police arrived at the GoGo Bar 'checking', they were shown the PRS licence. The police said it was no good, and we needed to buy their 'licence' or be arrested.
