The shocking incident, footage of which was shared to Facebook, reportedly took place near Sukhumvit Soi 103.

The footage showed police in attendance at the scene but severely outnumbered by the brawling taxi drivers.

Shocked onlookers can be seen running for cover while traffic is brought to a standstill as the groups continue fight in the middle of the road.

Channel 3's Morning News reported that 12 people were injured during the brawl.

That is as near civil disorder as dammit .. There's an article on another TV forum about the shame brought upon Thailand by a farang said to have made a cheapo porn movie in a massage shop ..

I would suggest the video above of them tooled up and going at each other like packs of dogs will do far greater damage to the reputation of Thailand ..

Given the unsavoury reputation of many motorbike taxi drivers, maybe the cops should have just formed a perimeter and let them go for it, thereby reducing their numbers, while putting a fair few more out of action for a while. Then arrest the survivors. Be one of the most positive moves for cleaning up and helping the places reputation.

A bystander was killed by a stray bullet on Saturday when two groups of taxi motorcyclists got involved in a fight in Bangkok’s Bang Na district.

Police said Weerawat Pheungkrut, 20, a worker of Kerry Express Thailand, was killed when a bullet hit his left eyebrow in front of Soi Udomsuk 1 at 11.40am.

Another unidentified man was also shot and injured and taken to a nearby hospital.

Police said Thaweekiart Sutthisanong, 20, was also injured with a knife on his head and was rushed to a hospital.

Police said Weerawut was killed by a stray bullet when two groups of taxi motorcyclists engaged in a brawl in front of Soi Udomsuk 1 because a group of taxi motorcyclists were annoyed that a new group had opened a stand nearby.

Police are checking footage of security cameras in the area before making arrests.

Just a few hundred metres from my condo on my route to Makro. Two bunches of savages. One time I am glad of the stupid licensing laws as I have delayed my shopping trip until after 5pm when they can sell wine again.

I could easily have been the poor sucker caught in that crossfire, RIP to the victim and his pregnant wife.

The first thing that should be be done is that the police head in charge of that area should be transferred to an inactive position. next ...all the police me seen in that video should be sacked from service! Then all the motor taxis in that area should be rounded up and detained under the internal security act and simply detained without court orders etc, no bail, no visitations

Why...first the police head in that area should be proactive to know what criminal groups are in that areas, who posess a threat etc ie the police are meant to be proactive to gather intel in areas under them. Nest the police in the video seems hopeless and the fact tha criminal actions are taking place in front of them speaks words. Next the public and citizens should be protected against gangs like these.

Most of these motortaxis are basically illegitimate children of police, army or govt servants that studied at the technical colleges famous for gangs of cowards ie most of them need to bring their fellow buddies home to help consummate their nuptial vows on their marriage nights even,  as by themselves alone, their single appendages are too small for anything, hence they need cowardly group power.

First 2 paragraphs fine . Last one .....lost me.

And police does it's best to not get engaged.

Wouldn't a few warning shots in the air help to calm the brawl?

Lovely.

But the  police officers have to pay for the ammunition themselves....

So, the police role was what exactly?

Offering to hold their coats perhaps

Would that this was a country of robust legal measure and their criminal culpability could then in turn finance some financial restitution to the deceased's family and unborn child.

A sad, lamentable and pitiful state of affairs - which as always will be dispensed with by a round of wais and a 'mai phen rai'

These guys have been whipped into a frenzy by the mafia family of that area who has seen a reduction in takings. .

An innocent Kerry employee has lost his life and others injured.

The police are totally complicit and no doubt their will be a reported crackdown.
