webfact
UK PM front-runner Johnson pledges to "end the digital divide" by 2025 FILE PHOTO: Boris Johnson, leadership candidate for Britain's Conservative Prime Minister, leaves home in London, Britain, June 15, 2019. REUTERS/Toby Melville/File Photo LONDON (Reuters) - Boris Johnson, the front-runner to replace Prime Minister Theresa May, pledged on Sunday to "end the digital divide" in Britain with the rollout of full fibre broadband by 2025. Using his column in the Telegraph newspaper, Johnson, who was criticised for missing the first television debate on Sunday with the other contenders for Conservative Party leader, said he would speed up the rollout of full fibre broadband. "The government has just set a new target for the 100 per cent roll-out of full fibre broadband – by 2033! ... As a deadline, that is laughably unambitious," he wrote. "Let's say goodbye to the UK's manana approach to broadband and unleash full fibre for all by 2025." thaibeachlovers
Of all the problems Britain faces, faster internet is not anywhere near a priority. Sorry Boris, but on this one you need to start over with something actually worthwhile.

Chomper Higgot
Johnson promises to achieve something by 2025 that could well have been achieved 10 years ago, and of course there is no guarantee that he'll remember tomorrow what he says today. Whether he achieves it in 6 years remains to be seen but does indicate his priorities are thankfully elsewhere.

No Deal leave by default on the 31/10; onto those wonderful WTO rules, just like that!; then negotiate fantastic trade deals in a tiny tiny portion of the time normally taken; = Sorted. In his mind, it's all as easy as telling others to do it!

Krataiboy
If Boris wants to make a digital footprint on history, he could do worse than follow the brave lead of Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and a group of Swiss politicians and join the growing campaign against the roll-out of 5G. Experts say the untried and untested latest generation of communications technology, launched in the UK last month, poses a huge and ongoing threat to human health, as well as animals, insects, plant life and every other living thing on the planet. More 2,000 scientists and 1,400 medical doctors and environmental groups from over 80 countries have petitioned the EU, World Health Organisation and United Nations for a moritorium until the new system can be proven safe. Yet moist governments and the mass media -who stand to benefit financially from the roll-out - are playing down the potential hazards posed by 5G, which operates at up to 100 times higher frequencies than the current 3 and 4G cell phone tower transmitters already shown to produce health problems. Dr. Devra Davis, President of the Environmental Health Trust, says: “If you are one of the millions who seek faster downloads. . . a solution is at hand - that is, if you do not mind volunteering your living body in a giant uncontrolled experiment on the human population.” Details: https://ehtrust.org/5g-the-unreported-global-threat-by-deve-davis-phd-mph/
