webfact
Police get serious about violence between rival motorcycle-taxi groups after deadly Udomsuk brawl By The Nation Police will gather DNA samples from nearly 100 men seen taking part in a deadly brawl among members of two rival motorcycle-taxi stands in Bangkok’s Bang Na district on Saturday, as part of an effort to stamp out any repetition of such violence and boost public confidence. The large-scale fight broke out in broad daylight in the Udomsuk area, resulting in two deaths. “We will treat this case very seriously to boost confidence in public safety,” Pol Maj-General Teerasak Suriwong, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, said on Monday. All violent participators in the brawl would face legal action, as police wanted to make sure that no such fights erupted again, he said. “We will gather scientific evidence, interview witnesses and pore over CCTV recordings, too,” he added. At present, five suspects have been arrested, and police have expressed their intention to object to the individuals’ bail requests. Of those for whom arrest warrants have already been issued, two are still on the run. That sounds like the same old story everytime. Something happen and they take a strong stance. After that nothing happens and it pours out in the sand like all the other garbage they try to pollute the country with. The final result, will be that they sit on their <deleted> doing nothing, per usual.

goldenbrwn1
Does the word proactive exist in the Thai language? If so then maybe they could add the word policing after and then be taught exactly what that means.
jaiyen
But the motorcycle taxis already pay the police ! So why would the police do anything ?

PingRoundTheWorld
Very seriously! 1000 baht and a wai instead of just 500! Seriously though - in any other country they would've rounded up all 100 and let them chill in jail for a while. They attacked each other with weapons - that's attempted murder, not just a brawl. Get these nutjobs off the street.

Wiggy
We had a condo meeting a while back and somebody suggested we get a used tuk-tuk (or similar) to ferry residents to the BTS and back. "Oh no, cannot," said the committee chairman. "The motorcycle taxi boys won't like that and might attack the driver." So that's that settled then. Thugs, plain and simple (some condos do have this service but it's only OK if it's a new building, not an old one, apparently.

MikeN
Police get serious about violence between rival motorcycle-taxi groups after deadly Udomsuk brawl As both groups were from unlicensed stands perhaps a bit of proactive policing beforehand might have prevented the violence. How many other motorcycle taxi stands are also unlicensed but ignored by the police, BMA and the DLT ? Of course, we know why they are ignored ....
