Samui karaoke lounge offering underage sex for 2,000 baht Picture: Thai Rath An undercover team of police in Koh Samui carried out a sting and busted a karaoke lounge last night for offering underage girls for sex. Officers posing as customers went to the Isan Karaoke in Bo Phut. As soon as they arrived three girls were brought out and a price of 6,000 baht was agreed. Arrested were the owner Sukanya Phadaeng, described as both 26 and 28 in the Thai Rath story, and the manager, a lady boy going by the name of "Joy". The owner said she had been in business for a year and her girls mostly came from the north east of Thailand. They got 100 baht an hour for sitting in the lounge and talking to customers. If they went for sex the charge was 2,000 baht with the girl keeping 1,700 baht and the lounge 300 baht. Chaiyasit Nijkham, an 18-year-old ladyboy, and Sukanya Phadaeng, 28, were arrested in a sting operation in which undercover officers came to the bar as customers. While at the bar, the officers were approached by the suspects who offered them the sexual services of three girls – all under 17 – in exchange for Bt6,000, said Royal Thai Police's Children, Youth and Women's Division superintendent Pol Colonel Damrongsak Onta who led the arresting team. The suspects reportedly confessed to having run the bar and procuring teenage girls for prostitution for over a year. The cost of sexual services was Bt2,000 per head, of which Bt300 went to the bar and the remainder was kept by the girl. Although I know that this underage problem is happening here, and the people who traffic in these children are scum, I will never believe the police's information when they do these kinds of raids.
